Fastrak Announces “New Great Lakes Region”

In an astounding announcement the Fastrak Racing Series once again announces another newly formed region. Based in Shawano Wisconsin the Newly formed region will be called the “Great Lakes Region” and under the direction of licensee holder for the area Jeff Curtin. “We have been in negotiations for some time now” stated Fastrak Founder Stan Lester. “Jeff is a racer that is willing to give up his personal racing for the benefit of the sport. That’s the kind of people we are looking for with Fastrak. I had to do the same thing with my personal racing. It’s a tough choice but for the sport to be healthy again it takes people like Jeff to make some very tough decisions and not racing anymore is probably the toughest decision a racer could ever make. Jeff is a very successful limited late model driver/team owner/crew chief in that area and very well respected. I really respect the effort it takes for a driver to step up and make the commitment to this. Only race car drivers can understand how tough of a decision that really is. I know the teams in the area will have great respect for Jeff in doing this. This gives the area teams a Director that can relate to their needs while at the same time building a racing series. It is win-win for people in that area”.

The Shawano Speedway in Shawano Wisconsin has also become “weekly sanctioned” with the Fastrak Series for the 2006 season. Shawano Speedway is a half mile facility and all competitors in this class will have the opportunity to run for the $250,000.00 National Points Championship. The Limited Late Models will run at 2550 and the Fastrak late models will follow Fastrak rules for their weights. The Limited Late Models are steel head engines with around 450 HP. They will also be on a 12” steel wheel and the Fastrak cars will have the 14” aluminum wheel option. Each type of car will be allowed to score track points during the year knowing upfront when they come to the National Championship its crate engines only. “This is one thing in particular I liked about Fastrak” stated licensee Curtin. Stan understand that some tracks just can’t start a brand new class and no cars. Being a former driver and car owner he understands power to weight ratios and trys to actually help us build a car count instead of demanding we do it a certain way. He was quick to tell me that he understood we had to build the class and was more than willing to work with us any way he could. As a matter of fact he told me points blank, Jeff I am not worried about that at all, The main thing is to keep the cars even and I can assure you the drivers will make sure you do that. You can tell Stan has a lot of experience in the growing pains of including crate engine cars. Stan is a racer, and a very disciplined business person”.

When asking Curtin about the National Championship for Fastrak he replied, “I am in line with Fastrak in thinking it’s about time someone came up with a plan that actually supported the weekly racer. Why not have a big points fund for the weekly guys? They are the ones that actually support dirt racing throughout the country. In talking with Stan I think everyone will be surprised about the future of Fastrak. With stock options for licensee holders like me, teams and also the weekly sanctioned tracks the future is great for everyone involved”.

“I am really glad to have Jeff on our team” said Series Founder Lester. “Drivers from that area are already calling the office and I look for a great turn out there. I appreciate the local board at the track in making this move. We have also hired ad new R & D director that will go from track to track helping teams in the area. We feel l this is one way we can help the racer. That’s the key to this entire deal, people helping people”.

Curtin wanted to give a special note of thanks to the following people. The entire track committee at Shawano Speedway,
Ed from Gold Star Racing, Troy Springborn Racing, Pete Laska and especially all the teams that came to the meetings and have supported this.
