The Awards Banquet for the Fastrak Champions Series is to be held February 11th at the beautiful Marriot Renaissance in Spartanburg SC. To be held in the “Ball Room” of the hotel this is sure to be a great hit among the Fastrak teams. Bill Martens from GM Performance Parts, Doug Gillenwater General Manager of Volunteer Speedway and Justin Fantozzi from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company will be the guest speakers. Justin Fantozzi was quoted as saying “The 2005 season with Fastrak was very successful. It continues to grow and the results were beyond our expectations. The commitment of the teams and management has been incredible and we look forward to the 2006 season and future years to come”. Gillenwater stated this morning “Fastrak was the only sanctioning body that raced at Bulls Gap in 2005 and we look forward to having them back in 2006. The Fastrak competitors were great when at our facility. Not only great racing but teams having fun! You could just see the teams helping each other. That’s something we had lost in racing for the most part and its great to see a formula like Fastrak that has helped instill that in teams again. This is racing like it used to be”.
Over $70,000.00 will be handed out to the teams for their efforts in 2005. There will also be two new GM 604 crate engines put into a drawing for all teams that attend. “We wanted to do this in a drawing so everyone has a chance to win The teams that might not have had the best year have the opportunity to leave there with a great prize” stated series Founder Stan Lester. “Everyone worked very hard this year. The racing was some of the best I have ever seen and everyone deserves a chance. It is our intention to look after all our teams, not just our Champions. Can you imagine if the team that ran last in points won a new engine? That would certainly help them into the 2006 season”.
The “Rookie of the Year:” award, supported by Dirt Pro Mufflers owner Buster Smith will also be given away that night. “Dirt Pro has been very supportive of Fastrak and crate racing in general” said Southern Region director Jody Palmer. “We look forward to the continued support of Dirt Pro”.
The newly created award “The Sportsman of the year” will also be given away at the banquet. The award was created on behalf of our friend and Fastrak participant Chuck Field. Chuck passed away in 2005 and everyone would agree that Chuck was the certainly best Sportsman in Fastrak. In my opinion this is one of the most prestigious awards any team could receive. Chucks wife Leigh will be on hand for the presentation of the award. “Leigh is still very much a part of our family” stated Lester. “I look forward to having her involved with Fastrak for a long time to come”.
The “Manufacturers Cup” was completely new for 2005. One of the lucky manufacturers will receive a $5000.00 check along with the prestigious Goodyear Cup. The cup will then be displayed in the winning chassis manufacturers place of business for the remainder of the season. The Cup will then be awarded to the following season’s winner at the 2006 Banquet. The participating chassis manufacturers for 2005 were, GRT, Mastersbilt, Warrior, TNT, Rocket and CJ Rayburn. “I really appreciate all the manufacturers that participated in 2005” said Lester. I look forward to their continued participation for 2006 and we look forward to adding even more to the 2006 Manufacturers Cup.
