Carnesville, GA - Sunset Speedway located in Banks, OR is the latest track to join the growing list of Fastrak Weekly Sanctioned tracks. Owner Doug Walters bought the ¼ mile facility two years ago and is excited about the upcoming season with Fastrak. “We have had more inquiries than ever before. It’s amazing, from drivers calling to get rules, to fans talking around town, to sponsors who are looking to get on board. I believe the close proximity to downtown Portland (20 miles) gives us a great base of prospective fans to build on. We had good crowds last year as the word got out that we were new and doing a fairly good job at putting on a good efficient show. I think teaming up with Stan and Fastrak will only add to the car counts, which will add the fans. ”
“We had a crate series out here last year that just kind of followed the “big” cars around to nearby tracks. Stan and I had been talking for a little while, and last August Stan came out here for four days and spent time with us. When he mentioned weekly sanctioning, we started looking at the positives. The National Point fund is a huge incentive for a guy to come out here and run--he can run the same track all year and then have a shot at $250,000.” Walters continued “I like the fact that Stan is always a phone call a way. At most, a couple of phone calls and whatever problem we may have can be solved.”
“Doug and I have been talking at least once a month for over a year now. I can’t think of anybody else I would want to be our foundation on the west coast. After spending a few days out there with Doug and his crew I knew this is where we needed to be,” commented Lester. “Doug’s reputation in the racing world on the west coast is as good as it gets, we’ve had several inquires from other tracks out there and I believe Doug had a lot to do with it. I look for Sunset Speedway to be a great success in 2006. The work Doug and his family have accomplished there is first class--they have almost completed an in house full service facility for race cars on the property of the track.” Lester continued, “Already having a Fastrak Weekly sanctioned track on the west coast, we are ahead of our original business plan.”
