DOE RUN, MO--(May 26, 2003) If someone would've asked Junior Ferguson at the beginning of the evening what he thought the odds were of him winning the Multi feature, he probably would have laughed and said slim to none. But when the checkered flag flew signaling the end of the race, it was Ferguson first across the line. Winning their first feature event of 2003 was quite an accomplishment for the #97 team as they have faced numerous mechanical problems in the early part of the season.

Casey Barnhouse jumped out in the lead at the drop of the green and despite numerous challenges from Dustin Barks, Derek O'Dell and Tony Roney, seemed destined for the winners circle. A late race incident involving Tony Roney and Barnhouse sent both cars to the pits and put Ferguson in position to grab the win. Finishing second was Barks followed by O'Dell, Matt Dotson and Joey Boyd.

Barks won the first heat followed by Ferguson and Kevin Bess. Barnhouse was the winner of the second heat with Tommy Boyd second and Paul Cain third. Derek O'Dell came from a last row starting position to win the third heat. Tom Ritter was second and Brian Keen third. Barks picked his second win of the night in the dash with Barnhouse second and O'Dell third. Jimmy Bridgeman was first across the line in the "B" main. The remaining transfer spots went to Eric Ziegler and David Chilton.

A total of 16 dwarf cars took to the track for the feature event with Todd Williams once again showing everyone why he was the 2001 champion, picking up wins in both his heat race and the feature. Finishing second in the feature was Vince Conway, followed by Steve Copeland, Glenn Province and Mark Yates. Province picked up the win in the first heat followed by Ron Wadlow and Conway. Mike Zaricor followed Williams across the stripe in the second heat, with Mark Yates third.

Carl Bellew was again the man to beat in the Mini Stock division, winning both his heat race and the feature event. Eric Bellew finished second in the feature event, followed by Ron Moser and Chris Pettus. Eric also finished second to Carl in the heat race with Pettus taking home third.

In the Stock Kart class, it was a Landon Barks evening. Barks drove his #8 kart to the win in both his heat race and the feature. Wayne Arnold finished second in the feature followed by Brad Paquet and Braydon Wright. Andrew Cash won the first heat followed by Dakota Barton, Michael Hutchison, Jesse Wright and Braydon Wright. Arnold finished second to Barks in the second heat followed by Paquet , Amber Bayless and Madison Weedman.

In the Super Stock Kart class, Michael Harp added two more victories to what is becoming quite an impressive list. In the feature event, Wayne Arnold finished second with Kodi Giessing third and Megan Bell fourth. Giessing was second in the heat race, followed by Bell.

Racing action will resume Friday night, May 30th with the 600cc Winged Multis, Dwarf Cars, 4 cylinder Mini Stocks, Stock and Super Stock Kart classes participating. Gates open at 6:00 p.m., practice at 7:30 p.m., racing at 8:00 p.m. For more information on Doe Run Raceway, log on to www.doerunraceway.com or phone (573) 756-8889.
