West Plains, MO The Saturday night program at West Plains Motor Speedway fell victim to Mother Nature again this week, but fans and drivers turned out Sunday afternoon to enjoy the Best Western Grand Villa sponsored weekly points program, under clear skies with full sunshine thoughout the event.
A field of 32 modifieds ran heats and a B-feature to determine the 24-car field. With almost the full 24 cars running flag to flag it was quite a race. Contact on the last lap did leave Carmon Vincent at the off ramp after the white flag had been thrown. Taking his first feature win of the season was Jonathan Russell of Jonesboro, AR, followed by brother, Jeremy Russell, also of Jonesboro, while Kyle Berry of Poplar Bluff, MO, Bill Adams and Matt Barry, both of West Plains, Scott Crigler of Alton, MO, Trent Cockrum of West Plains, Brian Judd and Carl Murphy, both of Caulfield, MO, and Chris Piper of West Plains, rounded out the top 10.
Balance of the field included: Calvin Tribble and Jerry Croney, both of West Plains, Rustin Miller of Houston, MO, Bobby Skinner of Moody, MO, Phillip Murphy of Ravenden, AR, Joey Smith of Pomona, MO, Kevin Collins and Kirk Hutchings, both of West Plains, Fred Scarbrough of Koshkonong, MO, Carmon Vincent of Moody, and Danny Peterson of West Plains. Jason Bean of Holcomb, MO, won the Hobby Stock feature in his first appearance at West Plains Motor Speedway. In his first ever feature win, Holcomb certainly won a hard fought race as second place finisher Dexter Frost of West Plains was challenging hard throughout the 20 laps. Balance of the field included Rick Cooper of Thornfield, MO, Jacob Black and Robert Williams, both of Van Buren, MO, Tony Krusen of Thayer, MO, Kevin Collins and Chuck Russell, both of West Plains, Shane Hitt of Birch Tree, MO, Korey Whitelock of Alton, MO, Brock Frost of Birch Tree, Dean Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR, Nicholas Black of Van Buren, and Kenneth Rhoads of West Plains.
Winner of the Cruiser feature was Clifford Collins, II, of West Plains, and he also scored his first feature win. Taking second was Andrew Harden of West Plains, followed by John Stiner, Bill Harden, and Benny Grogan, all of West Plains, Sissy Ratliff Seaman of Imboden, Rhonda Gunter and Mark Doiron, both of West Plains, and Mike Horn of Theodosia, MO, rounding out the field.
Youth Hobby Stock feature winner this week was Ben Piper of West Plains, followed by Austin White of Willow Springs, MO, and William Piper of Birch Tree, MO. This class is for young drivers age 13 to 15, and has produced several drivers who have advanced to the adult classes.
