Frankel Tops IMCA National Championship with Deery Brothers Summer Series Win

Jason Frankel clinched the J&J Steel IMCA Late Model National Championship and topped it of Sunday night at Quincy Raceways in dominating fashion by leading all fifty laps of the Deery Brothers Summer Series Main Event. Frankel drew the pole position for the feature event with Denny Woodworth starting outside the front row. Frankel grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag with Woodworth in tow. Frankel was never really threatened, even after six caution periods brought the field back together. A final restart on lap forty five saw Frankel pull away to a 1.5 second margin at the checkered flag over Denny Woodworth in Second, Terry Neal sailed from his seventh row starting spot to pressure Woodworth but settled for third followed by Justin Reed in fourth and Todd Cooney in fifth. Tom Goble, Jay Chenoweth, Mark Burgtorf and Fred Remely were the heat race winners with Sam Halstead and Matt Bailey winning the B-Mains.
The Miller Lite Modified main event was marred by two red flags as Tony Dunker barrel rolled his Skyrocket on turn two bring the field to a halt. The second red flag came out on the tenth lap for Derick Hoelscher who crashed hard into the turn two retaining wall halting the event for good as the checkered flag was given to the field. Michael Long scored yet another feature event win by besting Vance Wilson in the second spot, Wyatt Lantz in third, Steven DeLonjay in fourth and J.D. Beal in fifth. Jared Schlipman and Michael Long were the heat race winners.
Steve Carlin had a rough season in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock division but reminded everyone that he is not to be taken lightly. Carlin took the lead at the drop of the green flag from his second row starting spot and pulled out to a dominating win over James Leffew in second, Wes Mayfield in third, Jim Powell in fourth and Travis Booher in fifth. Carlin and Powell were the heat race winners.
The first appearance the new Afco KidModz at Quincy may have been a little short on cars but the four youngsters put on a great race as Bobby Pierce took home the hardware at the end of the twelve lap main event. Pierce bested Heidi Goodman in second, Jake Griffin in third and Joseph Hughs in fourth. Goodman to the heat race win.
This next Sunday, September 7 bring the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders to Quincy Raceways. The 360 Sprint Cars will be joined by the Budweiser IMCA Late Models racing for a cool $1000 to win with the Miller Lite Modifieds racing for $500 to win and the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks racing for $250 to win in the Selby Implement Company Night at the Races. The Salute to Industry partners will be for employees of Gully Transportation, Manchester Tank, Doyle Manufacturing and Movius Interactive Employees Free with Work ID or Pay Stub. Adults - $14, Seniors – $12, Teens (11-15) $7, Kids 10 & Under Free, Family Pass $35 - 2 Adults-2 Teens, Pit Pass $25.
