Inside Line Promotions - GREENVILLE, Texas (May 19, 2014) - Cody Freeman notched a top 10 last Saturday during his debut at Superbowl Speedway.
"It was a learning experience," he said. "Everything went well for our first time out. I learned a lot. The whole reason we changed the schedule was to see different tracks, different configurations, different dirt."
The night opened with Freeman having a miscue during his micro sprint hot-lap session.
"In hot laps we had the car in the wrong gear so we didn't get a good hot-lap session in," he said. "We knew about where we needed to be, but the car just didn't go in the heat race. We were way, way undergeared. We did not have enough gear at all. It was pulling down real hard in the turns."
After starting on the inside of the third row for his heat race, Freeman finished fifth. That lined him up ninth for the 15-lap main event.
"I stayed consistent," he said. "Everybody was real evenly matched and pretty consistent. The top one or two drivers pulled away a little bit, but from third to 10[sup]th[/sup] was pretty close."
Freeman maintained a top 10 throughout the feature before ending with an eighth-place result.
"It was kind of a one-lane track," he said. "However, toward the end of the race I jumped high and ran a little higher in turns three and four. The car really accelerated good out of turn four when I did that, but it was too little too late. It was a true learning experience."
Freeman is scheduled for his first doubleheader of the season this Saturday and Sunday at Gulf Coast Speedway in Alvin, Texas.
"Last year at this race was where I picked up my first heat race win," he said. "We've ran Gulf Coast a lot and really like the track. We go into Gulf Coast with more confidence than at most tracks."
