Crate Late Models, Kids, And Dads in the Spotlight.

Dirt track action resumes at PIR this Friday, July 4, with a six-division program of UMP Late Models, Street Stocks, and Warriors, plus the Super Cell Mini Sprints. For the Crate (Pro) Late Models, a 4th of July Spectacular paying $1000 to win and $100 to start has been scheduled.

After his unprecedented seventh consecutive win in the UMP Crate Late Model division, UMP officials conducted an “engine swap” on the number 18 of Paducah’s Tait Davenport. So far this season, 61 different drivers have competed in the popular Crate division. Friday’s special event offers additional laps in the feature and additional cash in the pay out.

The Independence Day celebration at PIR will include Penny the Clown, with balloons and face painting for kids. Her family-oriented appearance is sponsored by Wade Hayden Construction of Paducah. Also, PIR will give away the six dad-oriented prizes from Paducah’s Home Depot that were to have been given away on June 13 when the races were rained out.

The fireworks display originally scheduled for July 4 has been postponed until July 11 due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts. However, in the community spirit, WPSD-TV 6 will sponsor the popular show.

So far, 16 qualifiers have been randomly selected in the PIR/Chevrolet 2008 Silverado Sunset Truck Giveaway. Four qualifiers are randomly drawn at each PIR event through September 5, when the Grand Prize Drawing will be held. Complete details and rules: paducahracing.com.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. Earnhardt, Jr. won the Lifelock 400 at Michigan International Speedway, his first win since 2006, on June 15. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. PIR races every Friday night and is located off Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky. For more information call the PIR hotline at (270) 448-4PIR or the track at (270) 898-SHOW (7469).
