Ignite and SuperComp kart racing series begin this weekend
April 7, 2016, St. Louis Region – The Gateway Kartplex -- the St. Louis region's state-of-the-art go-kart racing facility located inside the superspeedway at Gateway Motorsports Park -- is now open every day, from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Kartplex's GT-5 rental karts are the fastest in the Midwest, capable of speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The Kartplex's daily Arrive & Drive rental program is a reasonably-priced way for anyone 12 years of age or older to experience the speeds, g-forces and thrills of real wheel-to-wheel kart racing.
The first level of karting competition is the Kartplex’s weekly iDrive Kart Racing League, conducted on Wednesday evenings with two seasons, one during the spring and one in late-summer/fall. The entry fee is $75 per event and the Kartplex supplies everything needed, including the competition-tuned kart and safety equipment. The six-event iDrive Spring Series will begin on Wednesday, April 13. Event registration takes place from 3-6:45 p.m. with qualifying at 7:10 p.m. Racing takes place within two weight classes (140-190 lbs. and 191+ lbs.). Each participant receives a five-minute qualifying session and competes in two 15-lap races. End-of-season awards include Kartplex credit ($400 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third), trophies and the opportunity to compete in the season-ending championship shootout. The championship shootout winner is awarded a factory-sponsored Margay Ignite K3 kart for the 2017 Ignite racing season.
For those aspiring racers who want to make the jump to higher speeds and personally-owned racing karts, Gateway Kartplex offers the Ignite & SuperComp Series, featuring a season-long championship for drivers of all ages capped with an outstanding awards banquet. Both Ignite and SuperComp Series kick off the season this weekend at the Kartplex.
