Clarksville, TN.
Christopher Perrigo (12) ran his car to the checkered flag opening up the show at Clarksville Speedway tonight with the Pure Mini Stock heat race.
The Minis were followed by the Street Stock heats that would lead to the crowning feature race of the season championships for this class. Anxiety at the green flag led to an immediate restart of the first heat as cars slipped in turn one causing a pileup. Kenny Gibbs (71) started on the front row and stayed there despite Ronnie Hedgepath's (H55) pressure coming from the second row. Both of these top drivers got past Chris Peltier (2) who started on the pole, and had to take the third place, Gibbs with the win, and Hedgepath in second ran those positions for the entire race. With Dorris McCord (45) on the pole and Don Everett (9) on the outside of the second Street Stock heat, no other competitors had much chance to go for glory.
McCord took the win with Everett and David Cline (4) taking second and third. The Open Wheel Dash may just as well have been a family feud with Michael (55) and Lucas (12) Lee, Randle (182) and Mike (25s) Sweeney filling four of the six spots. They left enough room for David Flowers (99) and Clayton Miller (X15) to get a piece of the action. We have to thank Clayton for leading the track in prayer before the racers take to the track. When the clay finally cooled, Flowers was the leader as the checkered fell with Lucas Lee and Clayton Miller following in second and third. Gil Smith (7X) led the first Open Wheel heat up to the crossed flags when a slip allowed Mike Neighbors (711N) to take over from there. Neighbors took the win ahead of Smith with Darrell Brown (36) in for the show spot. The second Open Wheel heat took its toll on the drivers as mechanical failure overcame one car after another. In the end the only ones left standing were Jeff Rogers (2R) with the win and Charles Zimmerman (93) making through for second place.
Mini Modified heats were up next. Charles Newberry (23) had the first heat wrapped up leaving a sizable field a ways behind. It left Floyd Clinard Jr.
(05) and Michael Dial (Z2) to decide second, but Clinard pulled away in the last half of the race leaving Dial the third place. Randle Sweeney (33) led a rumbling Late Model Dash across the finish line ahead of Tony Albright (1) and Gary Frost (F14) who slipped past a determined Carnell Parker III (75) just before the half way. The first Late Model heat saw Ronnie Frost (8) start on the front row and stay there for the win after the race had its share of cautions. Joseph Lingauer (28) came up from the third row to take second in this fast-paced heat race. Gary Johnson's rebuilt #20 was back firing up the red clay in the second Late Model heat, which ran a little smoother than the first. John put nearly quarter lap between his car and finishers David Miller (K1) and Benji Putty (21) taking second and third places. Pro Street racers staged their dash and Brian Caudle (RC1) took the glory by quite a distance from his nearest competitors, Matt Potter (64) and Curt Cherry (11X). Don Young (41) closed out the heat racing action in the Pro Street series where he started and finished up front. Young had the likes of Mickey Jerles (45) and Don Bradley (5) to handle, after a caution slowed the pace, just after the half way point.

After a quick 'Meet & Greet' on the front stretch during intermission, where fans can view the racers up close and personal, the Street Stock season championship race got under way. Dorris McCord led the field for the first couple laps until debris on the track slowed the action. A second caution still had McCord out front with Kenny Gibbs (71) and Don Everett (9) sticking to his tail until lapped traffic brought out the yellow once again.
When the dust settled, Gibbs would be in the lead and Everett pulled in second place. Kenny Gibbs is crowned the Street Stock Season Champion at Clarksville Speedway. Christopher Perrigo didn't have it as easy in the Pure Mini feature as he did in the heat, but he did have more luck. With Douglas Belew (Z3) leading the race and Timothy Hunter (77) running a close second, a mechanical failure in turn three slowed the action. It left Perrigo the checkered flag and Stan Ferry (1) to pull in second. Open Wheel modified cars took to the track for their feature. With Flowers using his option to start on the outside, three-wide racers scorched the clay coming down the front stretch at the drop of the green. They didn't all make it past turn one bringing up a yellow flag and restart. One lap into the race, another caution slowed the field and Flowers found himself in the lead. A couple more cautions would break the action but Flowers stayed the course. Toward the end of the race Randle Sweeney (182) would be the closest to #99 with a chance to keep it from the checkered flag. Flowers took #99 around the track inches from the outside wall where Sweeney rode the inside. Mike Sweeney
(25s) kept a solid hold of third place throughout until Randle hit a soft spot in turn three with just a couple laps to go. Flowers took the win with Mike and Randle Sweeney coming in second and third. Just a couple laps into the Pro Street feature, drivers getting ready for their championship next week, pushed hard with a slip in turn one putting a car into the fence.
Brian Caudle (RC1) held out for the win ahead of Matt Potter (64) and heat winner Don Young (41). At the drop of the Late Model feature green flag, Sweeney (33) and Albright (1), would drive hard for the lead with Frost
(F14) riding in on their bumpers. A caution straightened out the field with Albright out front. Tony put quite a few car lengths between his #1 and followers on the restart until another yellow brought the action down. Back into racing Frost, Sweeney and Parker wouldn't let Albright out of their sights this time when, upon approaching lap traffic, a spin stopped the action again. Against the race directors urging, infield officials penalized Albright and moved him to the rear on the restart. He still raced his way back up sixth place before Frost (F14) brought down the checkered with Parker (75) right behind in second. Mini Modifieds closed out the show tonight where veteran drivers Ronnie Richardson (15) and Don Donegan (54) took top honors. Richardson grabbed the lead after winning his heat and starting on the front row of the big race. And after sticking to Ronnie's tail, Charles Newberry (23) fell to mechanical failure leaving Jerrel Jones
(32) and Floyd Clinard Jr. (05) to deal with Donegan but not quite making it. Jones took third and Clinard fourth, wrapping up the action for the night.
