MADISON, Ill. – Gateway International Raceway is hosting a blood drive on Friday, September 4 with Central Illinois Community Blood Center as part of The NASCAR Foundation’s Fourth Annual Blood Drive presented by Nationwide Insurance. The blood drive will be held from noon to 7 p.m. at the Gateway Center, One Gateway Drive, in Collinsville.
All presenting donors at the Gateway International Raceway blood drive will be entered for the chance to win a die-cast metal No. 48 car signed by racing champion Jimmie Johnson. Donors will also receive a ticket to the Copart 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Saturday, September 12 at Gateway International Raceway, and a gift bag generously donated by 3M.
To register for an appointment, call Joe Leonard at (618) 593-0725. Walk-ins always welcome! For more information about donating blood, call toll-free at 1-866-GIVE-BLD.
Each year the Drive mobilizes some of NASCAR’s biggest entities - tracks, drivers, teams and sponsors - in an effort to help meet the on-going need for more than 39,000 blood donations every day. The national effort, spearheaded by The NASCAR Foundation, aims to help maintain safe blood supply levels and lessen the blood shortages that often occur during the summer months and around holidays.
In 2008, 29 tracks participated in the national drive. The NASCAR Foundation’s overall drive collected 4,261 pints of blood, potentially saving more than 12,000 lives. To learn more about The NASCAR Foundation’s Fourth Annual Blood Drive, visit www.NASCAR.com/foundation.
Central Illinois Community Blood Center, a not-for-profit organization, is the provider of blood for 19 hospitals throughout central and southwestern Illinois. Central Illinois Community Blood Center collects more than 40,000 units of blood and blood products annually to meet the needs of patients in area hospitals.
