(Macon, IL) Work began today on the expansion to the west of Macon Speedway that will provide additional parking and pit area. Fourteen acres of what was most recently a corn field is being converted to parking space, adding a major item to the growing list of improvements for the fast 1/5 mile oval.

Fans visiting the Speedway will notice something new or different each week as bleacher improvements, improved lighting, painting and many other projects continue. The base work for the jumbo back stretch billboards started this week with poles being set to support the giant signs. Sponsor billboards will soon adorn the Speedway in many locations.

The new, improved Macon Speedway opens it gates every Saturday night for racing with five UMP divisions – Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and 4-cyl Hornets. In addition, the C.A.R.S Crate Late Models are part of the program every Saturday night.

NASCAR Stars Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Macon Speedway in January of 2007.
Macon Speedway – racing every Saturday Night – is proud to be part of the $100,000 Contingency Connection program for the 2007 season. Macon Speedway is located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then .6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south on Wiles.
