Derek Hagar elected to take last week off from competition in an effort to make sure his new engine is 100 percent perfect before he hits the track.

"We could have rushed it, but we're putting a brand new power plant together," he said. "We decided we didn't want to miss something important and have a bigger issue. We took a step back to take the week off. Our plan was to run Saturday, but weather wasn't on our side."

Hagar will borrow an engine from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to compete this Saturday during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.

"It's been a tough year for sure with everything going on in the world," he said. "We haven't got to drive our stuff. When we get in other peoples' cars we've been contenders. We know what we're capable of. We'll have a good Dynotech engine under the hood this weekend."

Hagar has enjoyed a lot of success at Riverside International Speedway, where he was last victorious in October 2017. He also scored multiple wins at the oval in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

"I consider that track home," he said. "I've taken the opportunity since we haven't gotten to race to spend as much time there as I can helping with track prep and the night program whether I'm a push truck driver or whatever. I've made laps there this year, just not many in a race car."
