LaSalle, IL- Dixon's Tim "Ace" Hamburg outdueled some of the strongest competition at the LaSalle Speedway to collect his first victory of the season Saturday night. Hamburg's win may have come from the pole but his flag to flag triumph wasn't an easy feat.

When the seventeen UMP Late Model's took to the track, Streator's Steve Tyne was Hamburg's next door neighbor with a tough second row of Tonica's Ryan Dauber and Utica's Tony Izzo Jr. It was clear early that the race would be neck and neck.

The first lap out, the event's only caution flag was signaled for
Kirkland's Tom Markham whose evening ended early in the wall. On the single file restart, Hamburg, Tyne, Izzo, Dauber, Skip Martin, Chris Carlson, Tim Brach, Matt Slager, Jay Fiene, LaSalle's Mike Glynn and Jason Feger controlled the front eleven running positions. One lap later, Izzo took himself and Tyne into side by side action.

By Lap 6, Izzo was hunting down Hamburg with Dauber on his back bumper. While the front runners battled it out for positions, Fiene was in hot pursuit of the front of the pack from his twelfth place start. By Lap 11, trailing behind Hamburg was Izzo, Dauber, Carlson, Tyne then Fiene.

Three laps following, Hamburg and Izzo made contact but the lead never changed. On Lap 20, Izzo used the low side to bring the two into a battle but hit the back stretch tires slowing his momentum. When Izzo slowed Carlson chose the high line to clutch second and Dauber grasped third.

When the checkered dropped the finish was Hamburg as the winner over Carlson, Dauber, Izzo, Fiene, Tyne, Feger, Martin, Glynn, George Sheffler, Tim Routson, Matt Slager, Brandon Slager, Larry Legrand, Ryan McQueery, Tim Brach and Tom Markham.

After the Dash action, Hamburg discussed his feature outlook from the front row position he earned. "They better watch out," Hamburg said. "This car is fast." He was certainly right on cue as he earned the pole from the dash and later the victory from the pole.

Earlier in the night, Hamburg held off a fast charging Dauber to claim the division's Dash with Tyne second, Dauber third and Izzo fourth. Newcomer Turk Letizia took the first Heat win home with Mike Mataragas, Ladd's Danny Bardell and Oglesby's Bill Weistart Jr. finishing behind him. Elmhurst's Jim Partipilo won the second Heat in front of Tom Markham, George Sheffler and Jay Fiene. Martin captured the final Heat race as Dauber, Tyne and Izzo
crossed the line in back of him. Sheffler, Feger and Routson all earned transfer spots from their Semi Feature accomplishments. Izzo cruised the fastest qualifying lap with a time of 13.595.

Ralph Markham won the Midwestern Late Model twenty five lap feature contest after battling cousin's Reno and TJ. Ottawa's Butch Hampson held the point for the first four laps until Ralph, who started on the third row inside, stole the lead. Ralph maintained the point for the remaining laps as Reno gave chase. A yellow on lap ten slowed the action and kept the head cars close together.

On Lap 22, it became obvious that the third place runner, TJ, was
holding on with what appeared to be a broken tie rod but flew through the ¼ mile oval as if he was on a mission.

With only one remaining lap left, Ralph was attempting to get around a lapped car when Reno moved to the inside for a final chance at the lead and he hit the tires slowing him and forcing him to accept a second place finish.

TJ earned third over Darin Furar, Charlie Olson, Tonica's Eric Dauber, Don Bell, Princeton's Steve Oeder, the quickest qualifier Tony Coglianese, John Picccatto, Rob Piper, Bryan Ray, Johnny Johnson, Mike Migliorini, Mike Lock, Al Christy, Jim Prokup, Doug Newlin and Butch Hampson.

Oeder won Heat one over Johnson, Lock and Christy. Reno won the second Heat in front of Furar, Ralph and Hampson.

Streator's Shane Hill closed in on his second win in a row at the
finish of the Midwestern Sportsman feature. Hill led the field from start to finish even generating a quarter of a lap lead over the competition.

When the race was over, it was Scott Hatzer in second with Duane McCarville, Darryl Grandys, Scott Cimei, Jeff Hartzell, Oglesby's Keith Piano, Aaron Schmidt, Tony Emralino and Sharon Schlappi completing the top ten finishers.

Hill won his Heat as Cimei, Hatzer and Piano finished close behind. Schmidt held back Grandys, McCarville and Emralino for the second Heat win.

The Street Stocks continued their hard charging ways with Jay Hamilton prevailing from the pole. The action packed event concluded with Scott Schmitt the runner up in front of Justin Rutledge. Daniel Bark narrowly held back a strong run by first year driver Nick Sell of Oglesby. Chuck Provenzano picked up sixth place ahead of Al Gray, Chuck Leason, Charles Herhold, Gary Schmitt and Fleety Beltz.
