by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO: With the rain pattern staying the same for some three months now, by getting a downpour every three days or so, the Moberly racetrack has managed to get in the last four races as scheduled, between those rainstorms. After another downpour came at midnight Friday, the track had 1.1 inches of rainwater in the guage Saturday morning and some standing on the infield. But the required three conditions of sun, high temperature and a bit of a wind all came together Saturday to dry the facility as the crew got the track into good shape for racing and fan enjoyment, albeit a warm night. The night's racing event fit in nicely between the early Saturday rain and the Sunday morning rain that followed at dawn.

RACE REPORT: Just like his father, Pete with his wins in 2006 & 07, son Derrick Agee now races in the annual 25 lap Sportsman's event that was held this last Saturday night at 24 Raceway. The two Walter brothers from Clarence each won a heat race for the Sportsman Special, so Chad and Casey started along side each other for this 25-lap event. After a lap 3 spin by returning Sportsman track champion from a few years back, Ben Fischbeck now of Concord N.C., Butch Bailey took over 2nd just behind Chad Walter. A couple more cautions for debris on the track, and Chad Walter still led over Bailey and Casey Walter, with Derrick Agee, Tim Eravi and Rick Girard also getting in and out of the top five mix. By the half way point, Chad Walter had the lead with Agee behind him, as Casey Walter retired to the infield. A couple more restarts at laps 12 and 13, and that leadership changed in a 4-wide restart with Agee getting around Walter, as Fischbeck grabbed 3rd for a few laps. Agee held the lead until lap 18 when Chad Walter got a run around Agee and retook the lead. At the same time, Fischbeck and Eravi were trading off the 3rd and 4th positions in some good racing. Walter got back in front of Agee on this lap, as these two started to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack. By lap 21, the pair were running out front by a quarter lap. Walter then had to pit on the back stretch surrendering his lead after lap 22. So without anyone close, Agee had a clear shot to the finish as long as no cautions came out. None did and for the last three laps, it was Agee's race to the win of a $400 first place prize as Fischbeck came across 2nd, with Eravi in at 3rd. Cody Agee and Andrew Page completed the top five.

In the A-modified's 20-lap race earlier in the night's events, Steve Grotz and Kevin Blackburn started on the front row and traded off on leading the first two thirds of this feature. But by a lap 14 restart after the 3rd caution of the night, David Holder charged through to take the lead for the remainder of the race. It was a good threesome with these three running out front and jockeying for position to each grab the lead. But after a 4th caution on lap 18, Holder had both Grotz and Blackburn covered in the restart, with a green-white-checker setup. Holder never relinquished the lead and went on to his 3rd win in this car in three tries at 24 Raceway.

B-modified racing saw Chad Lebsock and Bob Woodrow on the front row start for this 15-lapper. Woodrow had the car to beat as he led all the laps, with Lebsock staying right up there in the mix for the entire race. Gary Wilson and Tom Elsen also came on at various times in the runner up position, as Kelly Smith got up to only 3rd for one lap on lap 8. The finishing order behind Woodrow, were Elsen, Lebsock, Wilson and Smith for the top five.

The Hobby Stock class had the highest car count yet for this 2010 season, as Tim Dawson was back at Moberly to take this win. He did so by leading all the laps and was able to lap into the field on the final one. It was this Hobby Stock class that ran a caution-free race and helped get the night's program back on schedule. And that's always appreciated by fans and management alike.

Earlier in the 4 cylinder Hornet class, there were a few cautions and a race-stopping red flag as a four car wreck on turn 3 took out a quarter of the field. Devin Still came out on top in this one, winning for the second time this season at 24 Raceway, with Robert Winfrey coming in 2nd and just behind him. This was their tune-up race for the 20-lap Hornet Special, coming next in two weeks.
