BONNE TERRE, MO – Despite 90-degree temperatures and a one-hour delayed start, Big River Sand Drags managed to host a field of 65 racers through a steaming hot show in less than four hours last Saturday night.

Pee Wee ATV featured a best 2 of 3 competition with Lee Bess of Bonne Terre taking first place and Justin Dee of Leadwood, MO second.

In Junior ATV, it was Devon Mason of Bonne Terre winning first and top eliminator while Jake Glatczak of Park Hills, MO took home second place.

Two B.R.S.D. rookies made it to the winner’s circle for Pro ATV. Adam Voelker of Fults, IL won first, but it was Glen Schaeffer of Cedar Hill, MO stealing second place and top eliminator honors.

In Super Pro ATV, we again watched two newly introduced racers take home the money. Joshua Powell of Dittmer, MO won first place and top with Mark Smith of Cedar Hill winning second.

Precision Powersports dominated Unlimited ATV with Kevin Betzer, Sr. of Arnold, MO winning first and top; Matt Haynes of Arnold won second place.

In Vehicle E.T., track champion Gladys Edwards of Bonne Terre won first place, but Troy Conway of Park Hills ran away with second and top eliminator.

Lastly, in our fastest vehicle class, Competition Eliminator, it was Steve Barton of Bonne Terre in his four wheel drive funny car “Barely Legal” winning first and top; James Casteel of Bismarck, MO won second place honors.

Though the racing action last Saturday quickly expired, next Saturday, at the 2nd Annual 4x4 Nationals, the only thing expected to be fast is the competition. Dozens of the nation’s best 4x4’s are expected to attend this non-points show on June 14. Also competing will be Competition Eliminator, Vehicle E.T., Unlimited ATV as well as the Pee Wee and Junior ATV classes. A 90cc youth ATV will be given away as an attendance prize courtesy of Duncan’s 4x4 in Doe Run, MO. Races begin at 6pm with gates opening at 2pm and time trials 3pm-5pm. Admission is $10 per adult; kids 12 and under FREE. For more information, contact James Merseal at jlmerseal@aol.com or (573) 225-8360, or visit www.bigriversanddrag.com .
