Jimmy Hurley has become a force to be reckoned with every time he shows up at the track. This became very evident last season with the O’Reilly Midwest All-Star Series.
Hurley, who calls Springfield, Illinois home, will once again bring his potent Maxim/Jeff McKay Engines machine into the mix of the “Best in the Midwest” in 2008. While his plans will also include stops with the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions and visits to the weekly programs at St. Francois County Raceway, his goal is to become the 2008 Midwest All Star Champion.
The 2007 season was a roller coaster for Hurley and team. Hurley’s crew was affected by an out of control mishap of another driver at Jacksonville, Illinois at a non-Midwest All Star event. Fortunately, Hurley’s team members were okay after the incident that eventually postponed that night’s events. Later on in the season the team was involved with an auto accident that left their truck and trailer destroyed.
The team fired back throughout the season by keeping their composure and focusing on pushing the popular #35 to the front of each event. For their efforts, Hurley brought home two victories in Midwest All Star action and four other wins on the season.
“We are looking to rebound from the things that happened last year and really focus on winning a championship,” Hurley commented. “It’s been said by guys like Schatz and Saldana that to win the championship you have to win every race. It’s that attitude we like to bring to the track each night.”
As for improvements for the 2008 season Hurley stated, “We would like to qualify better this year. That was one of the things we struggled with in 2007. We are going to take our notes from last year and figure out the best way to make them work even better for us this year.”
“The team and I want to hit more races this year. The combined rules with the All Star Circuit of Champions will help in that area. We will be really focused on the Midwest All Stars Series, but we will be hitting some of the other shows since there will not be any rule changes between the two series.”
The #35 team this year will be sponsored by Miles Chevrolet and Action Graphics. Hurley has announced that he still has sponsorship opportunities available in the form of primary and associate sponsors. Additionally, he will gain assistance with his program from Hoosier Racing Tires, Velocity Wings, and Pro Shocks.
On a personal note, he is joined at many of the events by his fiancé, parents, and many close relatives. “They have always supported me in everything I have done with racing. They are my biggest fans,” he added.
