Farmington, MO -- (June 13) -- The Springfield connections came out in force in the Sprint Division on Saturday evening at St Francois County Raceway.

With a good crowd on hand and the employees of US Tool & Grinding in the house, the Sprint Main event started with Robbie Standridge getting out to the point with Jimmy Hurley giving chase. Standridge was showing the way, coming up on slower traffic and working his magic. He got held up for a brief time and Hurley found the grip needed to get to the front. Passing Standridge on the high side it was Hurley’s race to win. Points Leader Joey Montgomery started outside the top six, worked the cushion for most of the event and was closing at the end, but settled for a second place finish. Standridge held on for third, followed by Joey Boyd in fourth and Keith Buckley completing the top five.

Modified action as always came to the front, with action that brought the crowd to its feet at times. David Shepard of DeSoto, MO was making a bid for his sixth win in a row, but rand into a snag. The “Big Gun” started on the front row with Billy “The Kidd” Smith. Taking the high road, Shepard raced to the front with Smith hugging the bottom. Lap after lap these two warriors fought hard and clean for the win. Brent Thompson watched a great race for the win. Shepard ran in to slower traffic coming to the white flag. Smith used his experience and made the move for the win. Thompson finished third, Jim Black drove a great race for a fourth place finish and Jeremy Greenwalt completed the top five.

Shane Blair found the problems he was having in his car for the last few weeks and walked away with the win in the Pure Street Division. No caution flags appeared in the 15 lap event. Brian Blair, John Bohn, Eddie Gross and Mike Savage followed.

Jason “Jaws” Daugherty found his way to the winners circle in an odd matter. He was running second to Dave Chilton. They entered turn on and found traffic on the bottom of the track. Chilton found the rear tire of Paul Bourbon, Jr and did the sky walk. Rolling his mount and coming down on all fours the car unable to continue, Chilton took his car to the pits. This left Daugherty left to defend his ground for the win. Daugherty had to deal with point lead Kyle Amerson for his first win of his career. Holding his ground for that win. Jason said the win was special as he and his wife Jessica were celebrating their anniversary. Amersontook second, Lynda Blanke finished third, Brian Keen was fourth and Hernando, MS driver Andy McElhannon made the top five.

The Kids Caged carts maed their first appearance at the track on Saturday night. Lee Stuppy will get the honors bestowed upon a winner. All was not well for some of the cart drivers as on the start Nathan Lix and Andrew Bassin made serious contact. Bassin did the roll in front of the main grandstand. Both drivers walked away from the incident. Stuppy was chased by Dylan Whitter, Chris Bollinger, Kyle Bullock and James Jennings. These youngsters are regular competitors at Doe Run Raceway on Friday Nights.
