(Odessa, Mo.) Despite cold temperatures and very soft spring clay on I-70 Speedway's dirt track there was a full field of IMCA registered racers on hand and the 1/3 mile track was very fast under the new Musco lights. The IMCA National Stock Car Champion was on his way to I-70 from Harlan, Ia. The Missouri drivers ran their heats without him. The IMCA Modified feature saw P.J. Conger repeat his dominating heat race win former Late Model ace charging to a second place feature finish ahead of Mike Tanner.
The Sport Mod feature was handed somewhat to John Boller, Jr. as Odessa driver led every lap until a bump and grind session with Royce Stanley resulted in a DNF and a DQ for them. Jeremiah Asher of St. Joseph had won the first heat and Bobby Penney had won the 2nd, his first win on dirt!
I-70's "fun" divisions, Sport Compacts and the Farm Trucks had action filled feature finishes with Justin Marrant taking his first ever feature win and Tom Corum his second!
