FORT MORGAN, Colo. (March 19) – A northeast Colorado trend continues this season with the return of IMCA Modifieds to I-76 Speedway.

The ¼-mile dirt venue at Fort Morgan had sanctioned the division from 1991-2000

“We were pretty much out here by ourselves a lot of that time. We were kind of an island because there weren’t any other IMCA tracks in the area for our guys to race at and we weren’t picking up any other drivers,” promoter Butch Speicher said. “Now with other tracks sanctioned, guys can race more than one night a week and it’s easier for them to chase IMCA points.”

Phillips County Raceway at Holyoke starts its third consecutive season with IMCA; Colorado Motorsports Park at Byers, south of Fort Morgan, is newly sanctioned this year.

Part of the ButlerBuilt Central Region, I-76 bookends the 2010 season with shows featuring the Larry Shaw Racing Blood, Sweat and Tears Series, on opening day Sunday, April 25 and for the Oct. 9-10 Fall Classic.

Local track points will be given April 25 and for Saturday shows, including another BST event on June 5, through Sept. 4.

The winner of the July 31 Modified Challenge feature earns $1,000 and joins the ballot for the 2011 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.
