ST. ANDREWS WEST, Ont. (March 3) – A business that started as a hobby 26 years ago rewards national champions crowned in seven divisions this season by IMCA.

Kirkey Racing Fabrication will give a 68 series full containment layback seat to the top driver in 2010 national IMCA Modified point standings.

National champions in the IMCA Late Model, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod, Southwest Racing Specialties Southern SportMod and Mach-1 Sport Compact classes all receive $250 product certificates from the St. Andrews West, Ont., manufacturer and accessories retailer.

Company founder and now CEO Steve Kirkey was originally working as a sheet metal fabricator when a friend asked him to make a seat for his race car. The business now makes a 20,000 square foot facility its home, making and selling seats through a network of more than 450 dealers in the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.

“We’ve found that there are a lot of Saturday night racers out there using our seats. It’s a level of the sport we like to be involved in and a good way for us to build our customer base,” said Nicole Hope, office manager at Kirkey. “Our customers have become friends over the years and now a lot of them are buying our seats for their kids.”

Kirkey certificates will be presented during the national awards banquet in November.

"This will be Kirkey's fourth season as an IMCA sponsor, but their last was a decade ago in 2000,” said IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “It is a pleasure to be working with Kirkey again and we welcome them back this year."

Information about seats and other Kirkey products is available by calling 613 938-4885 and at the www.kirkeyracing.com website.
