FISHERS, Indiana – Through the past 27 years, Jack Hewitt has become one of the most beloved superstars in the world of short track racing, earning a reputation as a tough, straight-talking winner with an uncanny racing ability.

In what will likely be one of the most anticipated books in recent years, Hewitt has collaborated with veteran sports author Dave Argabright to produce “Hewitt’s Law,” an autobiography.

The book is tentatively scheduled for release on January 30, 2003.

“I’ll tell you one thing right up front,” said Hewitt with a smile, “my wife isn’t allowed to read this book, and all parents need to read it themselves before they allow their kids to see it.

“My life hasn’t exactly been neat and clean, and I’m going to be very honest in this book. The good, the bad, the sad, the funny, all that stuff is in the book.”

Hewitt, a second-generation racer, rose to prominence in the mid-1980’s with championships in the USAC Silver Crown division and the All Stars Circuit of Champions. Today, Hewitt is the most successful driver in Silver Crown history, with 23 wins and two series titles. His 46 wins in USAC sprint car competition place him second on the all-time list, and he is third on the All Stars career win list with 56 victories.

Hewitt made a highly popular start in the 1998 Indianapolis 500, where he finished 12th. Four months later Hewitt accomplished one of the most remarkable feats in the history of motorsports when he swept all four feature events-modified, midget, sprint car, and Silver Crown-at the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway. In 1999 the National Sprint Car Poll named Hewitt as one of the top 25 sprint car racers in history, and earlier this year Hewitt was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa.

“Hewitt’s Law” is the third title for Argabright, a well-known writer and columnist with a variety of publications. His “Still Wide Open” with Brad Doty was critically acclaimed in 1999, and in late 2001 he released “American Scene,” a collection of racing-related columns and short stories.
