Has it been confirmed yet? Started hearing these rumors at the end of last season, and now, here they are again, louder than before. Is Jacksonville dropping the 410's and going strictly to 360's for their winged sprint show? If anyone in the know has info, please, do tell. Why the switch? Is this to help the car count? It has been lacking as of late. I understand there are a number of 360's out there that do not make the trip down every week as it is now, while there are a few that have been showing up. Do they want to draw those cars that aren’t loyal weekly competitors? I guess the question that needs to be asked is WHY do these cars not show up on a weekly basis to begin with? Is it because they feel they are not competitive? Is it difficult for them to get there on a Friday night? We all know no one is a fulltime racer. Most everyone has to work a full time job to be able to race. So, wouldn't it be a consideration to think that some teams will still not be able to make the trip to Jacksonville on Friday nights? Most of the 360's come from Northern IL, IA, and MO. Besides, aren't some of these guys running the 360 series...Sprint Invaders or WoW? Don't they usually run where the series takes them? And what about the 410 racers? With no other track running 410's on Friday in IL, doesn't it force those teams to make the switch. Please don't tell me it's a cost savings. If you’re a weekly 410 racer and already bought and paid for, now you will have to purchase or build a 360. Is that a cost savings? I think not. And what does that say to those teams that are LOYAL weekly 410 team? Jacksonville just wants to make another buck. I'm just concerned if this is a good thing or not. Only time will tell. I’m worried that we may not be so lucky at to have ANY wing sprints racing in IL in a few years. What happens when the 360 class starts to loose it draw, too? It’s been proven that to have a successful track, you need to promote, promote, promote. By all means, I’m not saying that Jacksonville is not successful. Jacksonville has been around for years. Every racer basically knows their schedule and they take advantage of that and do not promote. I’m not saying they need to run print ads in racing periodicals, but even having someone post on a message board somewhere about what’s coming up and big races. If you were not at the track that night, you would be hard pressed to find results anywhere. Just a little common sense in this day and age of the .com, you would think they could at least find someone to post results somewhere.
These are just thoughts from a concerned winged 410 fan. Please don’t brand me as a track hater.
