Bardstown, KY-June 20, 2009- The O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Graphic Impressions visited Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY for the second straight week and third time in 2009 and Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN grabbed the $3,000 payday in the Clayton Homes of Stanford 30 at the David and Anita Ferrell promoted ½ mile clay oval.

The win for Jewell was his 11th career series win and made him the sixth different series winner in seven events in 2009. Jewell’s victory came aboard his Southern Indiana Rock Drilling/Morgan Foods/MPC Motorsports/Jewell TV/Shelton Angus Farms/Scott County Tire/Pruett’s Auto Repair/KP Radio/Hicks Painting/RacingGraphics.com sponsored #9 MasterSbilt Race Cars, Cornett Race Engines powered entry. The winning mount also receives product support from Hoosier by Smash, PBM, PPM, All Star Performance, Bazell Race Fuels, Dyer’s, Braswell, Wilwood, Appleton, Simpson, Wayne Bowen Racing Supply, PRC, Barnes, Bayea, Performance Bodies, Team RFC, Sunoco, and Frankland Supply.

Eric Wells of Hazard, KY would finish second in the David Wells owned Expressions Floral and Gifts/Wells Motorsports sponsored Rocket/Custom, with Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN claiming third in his Doors-N-More/Marlar and Son Auto Dismantling sponsored Rocket/ Estes. Fourth place would go to Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY in the Finn and Jeff Watson owned Brad Burton Dairy Farms/Watson Plumbing sponsored MasterSbilt/HP, while David Webb of Nicholasville, KY would complete the top five in the David and John Webb owned ORS Auto Body and Collision/Valvoline sponsored Rayburn/Pro Power.

The remainder of the top ten in the Clayton Homes of Stanford 30 would be Victor Lee, Tim Tungate, Aaron Hatton, Larry Gray, Jr., and Dustin Neat. The 30 lap, $3,000 to win event would slowed by seven caution flags, with one turning into a red flag.

Mike Jewell would take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Eric Wells, David Webb, Dustin Neat, and Tim Tungate giving chase. The first caution would wave on lap 3 when Greg Johnson and Lee Devasier would tangle in turn four, with both drivers able to continue. The restart would see Jewell hold the lead, with Webb pressuring Wells for second, while Tungate would go to fourth past Neat, only to have Neat retake fourth one round later. With Jewell putting a bit of distance back to Wells and Webb, Victor Lee would begin to move as he would make his way past Tungate for fifth on lap 7. Jewell would begin working slower traffic on lap 10, almost making contact with a slower car in turn one, but able to gather his mount back up and continue strong.
Lee would take fourth from Neat on lap 13, but the action would be slowed with a caution on lap 14 that would turn into a red flag as Terry Keltner climbed the wall in turn one and would flip back onto the racing surface, with Keltner uninjured, but done for the night. The restart would see Webb take second from Wells in turn two, but the yellow bunting would wave again on lap 15 as Greg Johnson and Todd Coffman would tangle in turn four, with Johnson being done for the night. The next restart would see Webb’s machine spin in turn four and series officials would charge Victor Lee with rough driving and place him and the rear of the field, with Webb going back into second. This restart would Wells go back to second for one lap, before Webb got back by Wells for second on lap 16, while Jeff Watson would go from sixth to fourth on the same circuit. Caution would fly again on lap 18 when Jarryd Holshouser and Scotty Earl made contact in turn one, with Holshouser ending up parked next the retaining wall and done for the event. The restart would see Jewell still out front, with Wells taking second again from Webb, while Tungate and Watson would go fourth and fifth. Jerry Rutherford would spin in turn two to draw the sixth caution of the race on lap 20. The restart would also be nulled when Bobby Wolter, Jr. would spin in turn four while running in the tenth position.

The final restart would see Jewell still out front, while Mike Marlar would take fifth from Watson with a slidejob pass in turn four. Marlar would get by Tungate for fourth with a turn four slider one circuit later, with Watson making his way back into the top five with a turn four slidejob of his own on Tungate. Marlar’s charge would continue as he would scoot past Webb for third on lap 24. As race Jewell reeled in the rear of the field, Marlar would set his sights on Wells for second and would attempt a turn four slidejob on lap 27, but would grab the wall in turn four and not be able to challenge Wells again. As the field took the white flag, Watson would work past Webb for the fourth position, but it would be Jewell taking the checkered flag first, followed by Wells, Marlar, Watson, and Webb.

In preliminary action, David Webb was the Racing Optics Top Qualifier among 21 entries with a lap of 15.211 seconds. Heat race checkered flags went to Neat in Wayne Bowen Racing Supply heat one and Jewell in Graphic Impressions heat two.
