MOBERLY, MO (June 24, 2010) - Omaha, Nebraska's John Anderson survived a thrilling Green-White-Checkered finish with Dave Eckrich to win the Thursday hight 30-Lap Lucas Oil MLRA Main Event at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. Dave Eckrich settled for second followed by Mendon, Illinois' Denny Woodworth in third, Terry Phillips in fourth and MLRA Point Leader Brad Looney in fifth.

Anderson led the field to the green flag from his pole starting position and quickly proved he was the class of the field with 2009 MLRA Champion Al Purkey following from a distance in the second spot. The first caution flag of the night flew on lap #15 as Chris Speiker slowed against the wall in Turns 3-4 ending his night. As the field came to the green flag on the Delaware Double File Restart, Anderson again quickly checked out on the field but the front runners behind began to serve notice that the challenge was about to be on.

With apparent easy victory in sight for Anderson, 6-Time Champion Al Purkey suddenly slowed down on the front stretch while running second also ending his night and ultimately having season championship ramifications as Brad Looney increased his point lead over Purkey. As the field took the green flag one last time for the Green-White-Checkered finished, Dave Eckrich aggressively worked the bottom side of the race track hoping his slide for life would stick in his Barry Wright Race Car but Anderson screamed across the finish line first capturing the $3,000 win.

Anderson's MasterSbilt chassis is powered by a Roush-Yates Racing Engine with sponsorship support from Shop Quik Convenience Stores, Turbo Car Wash, Sunoco Racing Fuel, MarCorp Electric, REM Plastic Racing Products, and F.A.I.T.H. (Friends are in the House Youth Team). Eric Turner discovered problems after his heat and was a scratch for the night. Chris Smyser broke while leading the B-Main on Lap-5 bringing out the caution. Ricky Frankel suffered a right rear flat after taking the white flag in B-Main ending his night. The Main Event was slowed by 2 cautions. Al Purkey broke with two laps to go in Main Event running in the second spot.

Heat Race Winners included John Anderson, Al Purkey, Joe Kosiski, and Brad Looney. Denny Eckrich, Bill Koons, Sonny Findling, and Ashley Lancaster captured transfer positions to the 20 car A-Main Starting Field via their B-Feature finishes.

EXCITEMENT IN THE SPORTSMAN CLASS & CRUMP CONTINUES TO DOMINATE IN HOBBY STOCKS AT 24 RACEWAY

by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO:
RACE REPORT: Finally, a perfect race night, weather wise, as the all-fendered classes perform at 24 Raceway. The two support classes for the MLRA LateModel show, were Sportsman and Hobby Stocks for this special Thursday night edition of racing at Moberly. These two classes will both need to overcome some attrition to get ready for a second race night at the track in the same week.

And the Hobbys continued to be swept by Clayton Crump in his red No. 3C Chevrolet. Crump led all the laps in this 8-lap race, as the actual close part of the competition was for 2nd. Tom Creed moved into 2nd at the start, but it looked like Justin Bevill might just have had other thoughts about taking that position over. Creed hung on to get his 2nd place finish in his first time back to Moberly this season. Creed just didn't have anything for the leader in this one, as Crump made it look easy once more, winning his 5th of the year out of 6 races. J.Bevill stayed in 3rd and Jerry Warren settled for 4th, followed by Jamie Bevill and Nathan Anders. The race had only one caution flag waive.

Andrew Page jumped to the lead over Chad Walter and the Agee brothers for the start of the Sportsman race. But it didn't matter as a complete restart was needed after a caution and lengthy clean-up on the front stretch from Lucas Galland and Cody Agee locking up their cars together right at the start/finish line. And this was just after Wesley Mayfield hit the turn 4 wall and brought out that caution. On the restart, this time it was Walter this time who jumped into the lead. Rick Girard slid into 2nd and Page was 3rd, but only for a short time, as he took over 2nd on the next lap. Walter held on to the lead before and after the next caution at the beginning of lap 6. But at the start of lap 11, Walter, Page and Derrick Agee were running 3-wide into the turns, and while a little banging was going on between Walter and Page, Agee took his borrowed car, now numbered as the 14, and "rubbed" his way in front of the other two in some exciting racing. Agee held the lead through the white and checker flags for the win, as Page finished in 2nd over Walter. Galland, in his Lightning McQueen paint scheme, came in 4th in front of William Dahl's Dodge.
