CRESCO, Iowa (June 20) – Consistency has Ryan Dolan on top of point standings for the JR Motor-sports Hawkeye Dirt Tour.
He’ll look for his first $1,000 win when the series for IMCA Modifieds travels to Cresco Speedway for a Thursday, June 23 date during the Mighty Howard County Fair.
“We’ve run good at Cresco before so it’s a track we always like to go back to,” said Dolan, who has seat time in both a modified and a late model on the fast 4/10-mile clay oval, in addition to third, fifth and sixth place finishes in the series. “We’ve had some good luck so far, not getting caught up in wrecks and being able to finish every race.”
Dolan currently owns an 11-point ad¬vantage over Rich Smith. Mitch Morris is a dozen points off the pace while Jeff Waterman, who took the HDT checkers at Cresco last year, is 14 points back in fourth.
Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are set for 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow.
Admission to the grandstand will be free with the purchase of a fair button, or $12 for adults, $7 for kids ages 9-13 and free for eight and under. Pit passes are $25.
More information about the Cresco event, sponsored by Precision Overhead Door, is available by calling 563 547-3400 and at the www.mhcfair.com website.
IMCA national, ButlerBuilt North Central Region, Allstar Performance State and special series points will be awarded for the June 23 show. The first three Hawkeye Dirt Tour events this season have pro¬duced as many different winners: Vern Jackson at Benton County Speedway, Josh Ruby at I-35 Speedway and Ron Barker at Cedar County Raceway.
Dolan managed a sixth place run in the June 14 event at Tipton despite right rear tread issues. That finish added nine points to his lead in the standings heading to Cresco.
The series travels to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson for another Thursday show on June 30, then to Algona Raceway for the Fourth of July.
