North Vernon, IN-April 18, 2008- The O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Graphic Impressions kicked its 2008 racing season on Friday evening April 18 at the Mason and Tawnya Fleetwood promoted Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, IN with a 40 lap, $3,000 to A-Main for the Super Late Model division.

Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY would take the lead with three laps remaining to take the series opener win behind the wheel of the James Rattliff owned Rattliff Motor Sales/Campbellsville University/Budda Transmission Sales and Service/B&W Auto Salvage/ Green River Auto Sales/Delph Communications/The Medicine Center/Cox Wrecker Service/Wilson Plumbing/Wave Length Hair Salon/Gowens Auto Glass/Kirby Auctions/ SpeeDecals Vinyl Graphic/Williams&Tucker Auto Parts sponsored #16 C.J. The A-Main event would see polesitter Don O’Neal jump to the race lead at the start of the event and lead throughout the course of the event, which was slowed by only one caution flag, which occurred on lap 11, when second b-Main winner Chris Combs hit the retaining wall on the frontchute just beneath the flagstand.

O’Neal would work lapped traffic masterfully, but fifth place starting Justin Rattliff would advance to the second position during the later stages of the event. O’Neal looked to be on his way to the series opening win, but would start to battle a deflating right rear tire during the final ten laps of the event.

O’Neal’s misfortune would open the door for Rattliff to close in on O’Neal and on lap 38, Rattliff would make what would be the winning pass and lead the final three circuits as the ’06 series Rookie of the Year would pick up his second career O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Super Late Model division victory aboard a brand new C.J. Rayburn Race Car entry.

O’Neal would hold on to score runner-up honors, followed by Steve Barnett, Kevin Claycomb, and defending series champion and PPM Racing Products Hard Charger winner Victor Lee. The remainder of the top ten would be Jason Keltner, Cody Mahoney, Zach Carney, Mike Jewell, and Brandon Kinzer.

In preliminary action, Victor Lee was the Racing Optics top qualifier among 35 entries with a lap of 14.530 second. Heat race victories fell to Brandon Kinzer in Wayne Bowen Racing Supply heat one, Kevin Claycomb in K&N Performance Engineering heat two, Don O’Neal in Graphic Impressions heat three, and Mike Jewell in Real Wheels heat four. The B-Main checkered flags fell to Joe Janowski and Chris Combs, with series provisionals going to David Webb and Doug Smith.

The next event for the Super Late Model division of the O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series is Saturday evening, April 19, at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN for the 25th Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic, paying $3,000 to win.
