[New Richmond, WI] - - John Kaanta took the World Dirt Racing League win at Cedar lake Speedway on July 31, 2008. Jimmy Mars and Darren Miller pressured Kaanta late, but could not complete the pass.

John Kaanta (Elk Mound, WI) chased early race leader Adam Hensel (Barron, WI) until the two squared off for a side-by-side battle for the lead. The lead duo battled for several laps until Kaanta was able to take over the top spot. Kaanta began cutting through lapped traffic at the midway point when a yellow flag was thrown.

"I was worried every time the yellow (flag) came out," Kaanta admitted in victory lane. "I was sure how good our car really was. I saw the scoreboard, and I knew there were some good cars behind me." Despite those caution flags, Kaanta was able to keep some hard chargers at bay racing to the win and adding to his point lead.

"I really can't believe this," Kaanta said about the win. "The car was great. Things are going this well. I don't really watch the points. We just try to take it one race at a time. There are still lot of races left, and there are some tough competitors racing with the WDRL."

Jimmy Mars (Elk Mound, WI) started eleventh for the fifty-lap A-Main, but moved quickly towards the front. Mars waged several door-to-door battles as he worked his way through the top five. A caution with nine laps remaining put him on the back bumper of Kaanta, but Mars was not able to find away to get around him and settled for second.

Darren "The Thriller" Miller (Chadwick, IL) was one of Mars' fiercest competitors. The two battle for several laps trying to decide who would control second. Miller would see Mars slipped by in the closing laps leaving Miller with a third place finish.

Ashley Anderson (Elk Mound, WI) raced into the top five late in the race, and Jack Sullivan (Greenbrier, AR) found himself in the top five for the entire race. Anderson and Sullivan duked it out for fourth as the laps wound down. Anderson would edge out Sullivan as the checkered flag fell. Sullivan rounded out the top five.

Next up for the WDRL Late Model Series is the make "Masters" A-Main that was rained out back on Father's Day weekend. Then the tour will beat the heat of the summer with a few weeks of as they prepare for a Labor Day Weekend double-header. On Saturday, the cars and stars on the WDRL Late Model Series visit the Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, MN). The next night the tour hits the Quad City Speedway (East Moline, IL).

NASCAR fans heading to Kansas Speedway at the end of September, make plans to join the WDRL Friday, September 26 and 27 at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, KS). It's just a short ten minute trip from Kansas Speedway.
