PIR Officials announced today that NASCAR star, Ken Schrader, will be competing in the Wayne Coakley Super Late Model Memorial event this Friday. Schrader, a part-owner of PIR, is famous nationally for his short-track exploits. Earlier this season, he won the opening segment of the Tri Track Challenge at PIR on May 30.

Other nationally known drivers will be at PIR for the 30 lap Super Late Model event jointly sanctioned by UMP and the Northern Allstars. Pinconning, MI’s Jeep Van Wormer and Illlinois drivers Brian Shirley of Chatham, Dennis Erb of Carpentersville, and Steve Shepard of Jacksonville are among the dozens of invaders who will challenge the PIR regulars for the $5000 first prize.

This event is a tribute to the late Wayne Coakley, a Western Kentucky racing legend, who lost his life years ago while traveling home from an area race track. Coakley’s widow, Donna, will be on hand for the tribute event.

The Wayne Coakley Memorial will be the first in a huge three-race Midwest Motorsports weekend with big money on the line for Late Model competitors. In addition to the increased purse at PIR on Friday, I-55 Speedway in Pevely, MO will host a $10,000 to win UMP/ World of Outlaws Late Model sanctioned event this Saturday. Then, this Sunday at LaSalle (IL) Speedway, the same sanctioning bodies will host the Illinois Fall Nationals paying $7000 to the winner.

At PIR Friday, local divisions including the UMP Crate Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Warriors also will participate.

Pit gates will open at 3 PM. The grandstand gate and ticket office will open at 5 PM.

Adult grandstand admission is $20. Tickets for children 12 and under are $5. Pit passes are $30, minor releases are required.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval hosts several high profile events including NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. PIR races every Friday night and is located off Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky. For more information call the PIR hotline at (270) 448-4PIR or the track at (270) 898-SHOW (7469).
