Tennessee National Raceway melted the snow and blasted away the ice with it's 2010 Ice Breaker Race. The warm Tennessee sun welcomed Kenny Schrader and Sterling Marlin to the Volunteer State this past Saturday. As Tennessee National Raceway welcomed it's Super Late Models, Open Wheel Modified and other drivers back to the Ring of Fire.

“Schrader”, as the Nascar legend calls himself, came to battle some of our best local talent in the Open Wheel Modified class at the Hohenwald located facility this past weekend. Kenny Schrader battled back from an early accident to go from last to second place. He started the A Main in 4th and took the lead early in the race only to find his lead being being challenged by the 73 car of Ashley Newman late in the race,“Schrader had all he could handle of the Newman” stated track owner Nathan Ottensmeyer.

The fans were thrilled to see Newman battling Schrader for the final 6 laps door to door. Newman gave everything he had to pass Schrader but it was Schrader who took the checkers with Newman at his door, Schrader won by only a fraction of a second.

“I lost my front brakes, and I knew you were faster than me, but I still have good hearing.”, a smiling Kenny Schrader said to Ashley Newman as they relived the race in the pits. Kenny was referring to hearing what side Newman was trying to pass him on and taking away his racing line.

Ashley Newman was also commended on racing Shrader cleanly by Fred Anders, Events Manager for the speedway, “He had a chance to move him out of the way, but he didn't”.

Fans were able to talk with Mr. Schrader and Mr. Marlin, get autographs and just hang out. It was a great day at Tennessee National Raceway.
