Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway announces its intention to immediately implement a plan to improve the quality of racing at the Calvert City, Kentucky facility. The plan will require substantial improvements to the racing surface. Accordingly, it is necessary to suspend a portion of the remaining 2006 racing schedule.

There will be no racing at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway for the weekends of June 16 and 17 and June 23 and 24. Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway will host the very popular bus racing event on July 1 in conjunction with a professionally produced fireworks display in honor of Independence Day. After the July 1 racing program, Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway will suspend its racing schedule until October 6. This will allow sufficient time to rebuild the racing surface in a first class fashion and return to racing for an exciting conclusion to the season, culminating with the Commonwealth Cup. The October racing schedule will include regular shows on October 6 and 14, bus racing on October 7 and the Commonwealth Cup Weekend on October 27-28.

Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway is committed to providing the best racing possible for its fans and drivers. As part of that effort, track management has concluded that the racing surface should be improved in order to provide a better product. Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway operator Sherri Heckenast noted, “Our current surface too often leads to one lane, follow the leader racing and we believe that significant improvements can be made. We intend to significantly improve the racing surface in order to create more exciting racing for our fans. Our fan facilities and amenities are already of unsurpassed quality and we believe that the planned improvements to our racing surface will prominently place KLMS among the premiere racing venues in the country. We appreciate the patience of our fans, drivers and employees as we make these improvements.”

Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway will post the revised racing schedule on its website at www.KLMS.com.
