Pevely, MO (May 23, 2009) Randy Korte of Highland, Illinois claimed his third UMP Super Late Model victory of the 2009 season at I-55 Raceway. Pole sitter Craig Smith took the lead at the drop of the green flag and fought off a barrage of challenges for the first fifteen laps. Billy Faust rocketed to the front from his eighth starting spot to challenge Smith at lap seven, but after taking the lead briefly, Faust began to fade back. Korte then moved in to challenge Smith and the two raced side-by-side for a couple of laps before Korte took over the top spot for good. A few laps later, Smith's bad luck at I-55 Raceway continued as his right rear tire went flat while running second. That turned over the second spot to Ed Dixon who mounted a challenge on Korte in the closing laps, but he would come up short and settle for a second place finish. Billy Laycock would take third with Tim Ratajczyk finishing fourth and Tim Manville completed the top five.
In the UMP Modified division, half brothers Tim Hancock and Tommie Seets, Jr. started on the front row and older brother Hancock took the lead at the drop of green flag. Hancock would lead the first four laps before Seets pulled ahead. Seets would pull out to a lead of several car lengths while no less than eight cars fought fiercly for second through ninth. Ricky Horton would end up finishing in the second spot with Randy Korte taking third. Ray Walsh finished fourth and Hancock fifth.
Jimmy Cummins made his second visit of the 2009 season to I-55 Raceway and won his second feature event in the UMP/AARA Sportsman division. Cummins started on the outside of the front row and took the lead from the start and paced all fifteen laps of the main event. Troy Naeger mounted a challenge on Cummins for the final eight laps but was unable to find his way to the lead. Jeff Herzog would take the third spot with Jason Keller finishing fourth and Marc Roberson fifth.
Mark Todd claimed his third UMP/AARA Pro 4 Stock main event of the season. Todd who started fifth in the main event, stormed past his teammate Justin McCallister to take the lead on lap five and then held off a late race challenge from McCallister and Chris Fisher to earn the win. McCallister would edge Fisher at the line for second with Jason Crump storming from the seventeenth starting spot to finish fourth. Josh Range rounded out the top five.
