The second half of the 2004 Miller Lite Summer Shootout Series kicked off in a big way as all four classes took to the track for Williams-Woody Nissan Race Night.

The always energetic Rick Kimberling from nearby Slater, MO had the fans going crazy after the popular chauffer took a close win with a turn four, last lap pass in the W-K Chevrolet-Buick Mighty Modifieds. The field took the green and pole sitter Dave Meyer jumped out to the early lead with Knob Noster's Joe Bradshaw and Kimberling in tow. Meyer opened up a comfortable lead as the two battled it out for the second spot and it looked as though he was going to cruise on to the win. Kimberling dogged Bradshaw for the runner up spot and finally made the move stick on lap seven and set his sights on tracking down Meyer. A lap 12 caution saw the field bunched back up, but Meyer was able to keep the top spot running low while Kimberling was sticking to the top side of the track. Lap 18 saw the caution fly again for the disabled mount of Steve Cain with another caution flying before a lap was completed as Casey Creason had troubles with his machine. This proved to be a huge break for Kimberling as he had jumped the cushion in turn four to allow Meyer to pull away. On the restart Kimberling once again went to the high side looking to make the move and as the white flag waved Meyer and Kimberling roared into turn one with Meyer still holding onto the point. As the pair raced into turn 3 Kimberling caught a bite up high and powered into the lead as the pair came off of turn 4 and taking his first win of the year. Meyer came home with the second spot while Joe Bradshaw, Curt Potter, and Shannon Frank rounded out the top 5. Meyer, Bradshaw, and Columbia's Howard Hall came home with the heat wins on the evening.

The American Compressed Steel/Ditzfield Transfer WOW 360 Sprint feature saw a familiar face roll into the Winner's Circle as California's Randy Martin powered his Diamond Pet Foods #14 into the lead at the start and lead from wire to wire. Martin jumped from his outside front row starting spot into the lead at the start and as able to beat Steve Gennetten in the drag race down into turn one. The gap from first to second opened up to nearly half a straight as suddenly Curtis Boyer and Tracy Nichols began applying pressure to Gennetten for the second spot. The field began to enter lapped traffic with Martin still holding onto his lead, but Gennetten was able to cut slightly into that lead with Boyer, Nichols, Terry Hinck and Jon Corbin now battling it out for position. Boyer was able to overtake Gennetten for the runner up spot on lap 13 with Nichols moving past him the next lap and taking over the third position. Young Jon Corbin had moved through the field from his twelfth starting position and had just taken over the fourth spot on lap 18 when his mount developed a problem on the front stretch causing him to spin and bringing out the yellow flag. As the green flag once again waved Martin was able to power to a comfortable margin and hold off Boyer for his second win of the 2004 Miller Lite Summer Shootout Series. Terry Hinck came home third with Gennetten and Tracy Nichols filling out the top 5. Martin made a sweep of the evening as he also came home with a heat win as did Steve Gennetten.

Popular Concordia Late Model pilot was able to hold off a tough field to take a popular win with the crowd on hand. The feature rolled of with Richard Foster powering his #43M to the outside and taking the lead over the pole sitter Meyer as the field raced into turn one. Larry Clawson made a move on Meyer during the second lap that allowed him to take over the second position while Foster maintained his lead. Meyer moved back around Clawson on lap eight and began to reel in Foster for the top spot. The two front runners continued to set a torrid pace as Chad Clark powered his black and white 00c into the third position no lap 12 relegating Clawson back to fourth. The 18th lap became of the undoing of Foster's lead as the yellow flag flew for the engine problems of Paul Neel. As the green flag waved Foster developed suspension problems on the left rear side that allowed Meyer to move around and take over the top spot. Once out front Meyer never looked back as he held on for the final two laps for the win. Chad Clad, Larry Clawson, Kevin Kaiser, and Reid Millard rounded out the top five as they crossed the line. Three heat races were contested with Dave Meyer, Richard Foster, and Larry Clawson holding on for those wins.

The Street Stock division saw a great race from start to finish as the entire field was within striking distance of each other, but in the end Dave Bentlage brought his machine home with the win. Bentlage set the pace at the front of the field as the green flag waved, but behind him the entire field was jockeying for position to take a shot at him. Marc Carter was the first to take a stab at Bentlage, but the move wouldn't stick. Bob Gustin then moved around Carter for the second position on lap 4 after having starting inside the third row. Another driver on the move was Sedalia's Earl Sullins as he moved around Carter and into third before lap five was in the books. While the battle raged on behind him Bentlage was still able to hold onto his position at the front by 5 car lengths. The laps began to wind down and Gustin made his charge on Bentlage, even pulling up beside him at points, but just couldn't quite overtake the Ashland, MO native. The field roared under the checkered flag with Bentlage holding onto his position and Bob Gustin rolling home in the second position. Earl Sullins, Marc Carter, and Bobby Shane completed the top five. Bentlage was also able to double up as he and Bobby Shane were victorious in heat race action.

Next week the action rolls off on a different night as the special Putnam Chevrolet-Pontiac Tom Wilson Memorial Race takes to the track on Sunday, July 4 for another great night of racing action. The American Compressed Steel/Ditzfield Transfer WOW 360 Sprints, Late Models, Limited Late Models, and Street Stock will be in action with the W-K Chevrolet-Buick Mighty Modifieds taking the night off. This evening will also feature a special $1,000 added to the Street Stock Purse (based on a 20 car min) and round #2 of the Progressive $ for the Limited Late Model division. There will also be a giant July 4th Fireworks display presented by American Compressed Steel. Pit Notes:
- Representatives of Williams-Woody Nissan were on hand to hand out the winner's hardware Friday night. Jeff McCrea and Nikki Kempf pulled a beautiful new Nissan pickup, from Williams-Woody Nissan, into the Winner's Circle to congratulate each of the winners.

- Get well wishes go out to defending Late Model track champion and winner two weeks ago Chris Smyser. Smyser suffered a broken arm and wrist while competing in an event up in Iowa with his late model. Chris is expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks with his recovery.

- The car that Rick Kimberling won with was not his familiar #002 that fans are used to seeing. Kimberling was at the wheel of the #99 GRT modified owned by Dave Wright. The car is no stranger to the historic 1/2 mile as Vic Bentlage competed in the car at the beginning of the 2004 Miller Lite Summer Shootout Series.

- Dave Bentlage pulled into Missouri's State Fair Speedway and pulled off the win with an almost brand new car. The car has been on the track three times now and has wins in two of those events - once each at Missouri's State Fair Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway.

- The World of Outlaws presented by Action Promotions will be in action at the Historic 1/2 Mile of Friday, July 2. The American Compressed Steel/Ditzfield Transfer WOW 360 Sprints will also be in action that evening.
