Local Modified Stars will Shred the Dirt in Tri-City’s Xtreme Modified Open

Granite City, Il -- Open competition UMP-style Modifieds will also shred Tri-City’s quarter-mile bullring August 1 in the $1,000 to win “Xtreme Modified Open.”

As the companion event to the $10,000 to win “Road to the Brickyard 50” for the Xtreme DirtCar Series, several area Modified hot shoes, including Mike Harrison will shoot it out for 25 laps and the chance to snatch the one thousand dollar winner’s check from Tri-City Speedway owner Bob Wente’s hand.

No membership fee is required and pit passes are just $35.00. The Payoff:

1) $1,000; 2) $500; 3) $300; 4) $250; 5) $200; 6) $175; 7) $150; 8) $125; 9) $110; 10) $100; 11) $90; 12) $80; 13) $75; 14) $70; 15) $65; 16-20) $60.

Highland, Illinois’ Randy Korte also returns to Xtreme DirtCar Series action on his home turf Friday, August 1, when the top dirt late model
drivers in the country visit Tri-City for the $10,000-to-win "Road To The Brickyard 50.”For the past two seasons, Korte was a top 10 driver in the sport's only
national traveling series, but sponsorship cutbacks have limited his travel schedule for the 2003 season. Last season, Randy posted two wins on the Xtreme
DirtCar Series tour with victories in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Hagerstown, Maryland, finishing seventh in the 2002 point standings with four top five finishes, seven top 10 finishes, two fast time honors and over $80,000 in season earnings in 38
events.

So far, Korte’s 2003 Xtreme DirtCar Series season shows two top five finishes and three top 10 finishes in eight events.

Korte is anxious to show his talent against the nation's top drivers in front of the hometown fans, as the Xtreme DirtCar Series makes its first
visit to Tri-City Speedway, especially against Scott Bloomquist who, fresh off his July 26 win at the Hagerstown Speedway, will also brings his winning style to the Granite City half-mile.

"There are a lot of local fans that have followed my career from the beginning, but they haven't had much of an opportunity to see me race against drivers like Scott Bloomquist, Rick Eckert, Steve Francis, Brian Birkhofer, Jimmy Mars, Earl Pearson Jr., Dale McDowell, and Donnie Moran," Korte said. “You really get a sense of accomplishment when you can beat drivers of that caliber because they are the best in the country. It would really be special to do it at Tri-City Speedway.”

Pit Gates for the “Road to the Brickyard 50” and the “Xtreme Modified Open” open at 4 p.m.; Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., Time Trials are at 7:00 p.m. with Racing at 8:00 p.m.

Tri-City Speedway is located on Illinois Route 203, one-half mile south of I-270 at Exit 4.
