(Lebanon) The fans came to see the "Stars in the Cars of MARS", but in the end, it was 2006 track champion Brad Looney who dominated the field and captured his first MARS series victory Saturday night at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway.

Looney started from the pole position after winning his heat race, and lead throughout the 40-lap feature. He faced a strong challenge by Terry Phillips, who worked his way through the field, only to come up short in the end with a 14th place finish.

Looney, from Republic, won the Late Model championship at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in 2006, and looks to take his program to the next level.

"This is what we've been working for for the last five years," said Looney following his victory. "This time it just came through."

Lebanon resident Brandon McCormick placed 2nd. McCormick changed his chasis for this season, and this was the first real sign of success.

"A couple of the things we were having problems with, we've got figured out, and the car is a lot better," McCormick said after the race.

Jeremy Payne from Springfield, and Greenbriar, Arkansas, residents Jack Sullivan and Bill Frye rounded out the Top 5. The MARS Outlaw Late Models return to the high banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway on June 2nd, and will compete with the World of Outlaw Late Models on Ken Schrader Night, July 3rd.

The A-Modified 20 lap feature was marred by several crashes, including one on the last lap involving Rick Brown, who sustained minor injuries after hitting the wall off of turn 4. David Hendrix lead much of the race, but was forced out with a left front tire problem. In the end, Tony Jackson Jr. was able to keep his distance in front of Steve Martin to claim victory Saturday night.

Tim Brown took the checkered flag in the 15 lap Factory Stock feature which saw tight racing between Brown, Chris Jackson and Lake Mooneyham. Mooneyham was involved in a crash with lapped traffic that took him out of contention, while Jackson faded after mechanical issues.

Brown realized he was being challenged by those two.

"I was trying to protect the bottom there because I wasn't the fastest in the world," he said after finishing ahead of Jordan Holloway and Jim Reeves.

In other racing action, Shawn Nations was able to survive several crashes during the B-Modified 12-lap feature and beat Jim Hayes and Jason Otto to the checkered flag.

"I tried to stay out of the wrecks," Nations said of his win Saturday night.

Meanwhile, in another close Bomber race, Joe Francis and Dusty Rhoades fought for the lead, but Rhoades came away with the victory, and Landon Johnson finished second ahead of Francis in another close Bomber race.

This Saturday night, the Lebanon I-44 Speedway hosts their regular weekly show, featuring Late Model, Modified, Factory Stock, B-Mod, Bomber, Rookie, and DRLA Legends. Gates open at 5PM; Hot Laps at 6:45PM; and Racing starts at 7:30PM at the high banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, off interstate exit 135.
