(Macon, IL) St. Patrick’s Day found busy leprechauns at Macon Speedway spreading their magic on the improvements taking place. Workers from a variety of trades have spent time at the Speedway putting their skills to good use improving the speaker system, completing the walkway in front of the main bleachers, replacing the fence surrounding the race track, reworking the infield drainage system, installing traffic lights on all four turns, scrubbing in the concession areas and demolishing the existing infield judges stand. Necessary repairs and renovations continue as Macon Speedway management gears up for the coming weekends.

Drivers will be taking to the track on Saturday, March 24 starting at noon for a “Test-n-Tune” session. This will be a great opportunity to try out the improved banking in the turns while dialing in fresh cars so they are ready for competition on opening night March 31.

Macon Speedway has been in operation for over 60 years. Many of the spectators and competitors calling Macon Speedway home today grew up with the famous 1/5 mile dirt oval and have fond memories. Improvements taking place now at Macon Speedway will pave the way for future generations to come away with their own special memories.

Test-n-Tune on Saturday, March 24 is free for spectators. On opening night, March 31, gates will open at 5:00 PM and racing will start promptly at 7:00 PM. Weekly racing at Macon Speedway features five UMP sanctioned divisions: Late Model, Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock and Hornet. New for 2007 is the addition of the C.A.R.S. Late Models.

Macon Speedway – racing every Saturday Night – is proud to be part of the $100,000 Contingency Connection program for the 2007 season. Macon Speedway is located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then .6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south on Wiles.
