As the weather cools, the action at the Malden Speedway continues at a fever
pitch. 130 cars made the show Friday night. Terry English made it four for
four at Malden as he topped a strong 23 car Late Model field. Jeff Cone
dominated in Modified to pick up his second win in the past three shows.
Tony Anglin returned to victory lane in the #54 Hobby Stock car. Johnny
Houart won against a very strong field of Pure Street cars. Chris and Jason
Simpson picked up their seventh Cruiser win of the year.

Terry English remained perfect at the Malden Speedway with his fourth
Feature win. The past three wins were in dominating fashion, this time the
outcome was not so cut and dried. English started ninth in the feature
following a sluggish heat race and patiently moved through the field. The
first half of the race was a show in close driving as the top five pulled
away in tandem from the rest of the field. 2003 track champion, Billy James
built a modest cushion on the field while they battled for position behind
him. English took second on lap 12 and had caught James by lap 14. English
took the lead a lap later as he dove out of turn two on to the back
straight. A late caution flag set up a five lap dash to the finish.
English got a good jump on the restart and cruised to victory. James held
on for second. Jeff Walston of Paducah made a strong run to third in his
second trip to Malden. Steve Rushin and Steve Karnes rounded out the top
five.

Heat winners were Gary Beard, Kyle Beard, and James. Kevin Poole won the
B-Main.

Jeff Cone of Benton, KY led from start to finish in the Modified A-Main
feature. Cone built a big lead early and met the challenge of two restarts
following cautions late to pick up his second win in three weeks.

Behind Cone, it was hotly contested for every position. On lap 13, Jeremy
Conner's car suffered mechanical problems resulting in fluids being dropped
on the back straight. As the leaders came racing into the corner, Greg
King, Jared Wagster, and Shawn Haynes went off the end of the track entering
turn three. Wagster got the worst of the deal as he suffered a rollover.
Wagster reported he was okay and after getting the car restarted rejoined
the race and held on for an impressive fourth place finish. Greg King and
Bart Richardson put on exciting back and forth battle for second with King
coming out on the better end of that race. Doug Moore wrestled fifth away
from Mike Cooper to round out the top five.

Heat winners were Cone, Tony Anglin, Richardson, and King. Randy Martin won
the B-Main and turned that transfer into a top ten finish.

2003 Hobby Stock track Champion, Tony Anglin displayed his top form again
Friday. Anglin led from start to finish to take his seventh win of the
year. Anglin met the early challenge of Claudie Cook and pulled away late
for the win. Cook had a fight on his hands for second with Jeff Greene,
with Cook prevailing. The best battle of the race may have been for fourth
place, with Jesse Brotherton and Dietrich Bollinger racing side by side for
three laps before Brotherton took the spot.

Heat winners were Paul Betts, Anglin, Moore, and Cook. Daniel Bassett won
the B Main and he also made a good run in the feature, finishing in the
sixth spot.

Good things come to those who wait. Johnny Houart settled into third place
during most of the Pure Street feature only to capitalize on others
misfortunes late in the race. The feature was a hotly contested race from
start to finish. Chuck Tilley opened in the lead but could not build a
comfortable margin on the field. Jared Wagster dove low on lap 5 for the
lead but Tilley held. Wagster took the lead on lap 8 but could only hold off
Tilley for one lap. A caution on lap 10 reset the field. Tilley suffered a
flat and had to leave for repairs. This ended his chance at the win, but he
did climb back to a fourth place finish. Wagster was leading the race near
the end of lap 10 when he suffered a 360 degree spin in turn four that
dropped him out of contention. Johnny Houart had been waiting patiently
behind these two and took over with one to go and came home with the win.
Eric Lacy's apparent second place finish was disqualified in a post race
tech failure. Matt Cooper took second. Jeff Davis, Tilley, and Steve
Henley rounded out the top five.

Heat winners were Cooper, Tilley, Aaron Darby, and Henley. Red Rice won the
B-Main. This was second chance night at the speedway, as Rice also turned
his B-Main transfer into a top 10 finish.
