A 135 car turnout - highlighted by a $2,000 to win Sprint Car race, made the "Night of Thunder" show at the Malden Speedway a success. Sprint Cars from 8 states including, California, Ohio, and Georgia made their appearance at the show. The main event feature was taken by Chad Kemenah of Newark, OH in a fantastic finish over hard charging Tim Montgomery. Montgomery had won the opening - make up feature of August 22. Season champ, Bart Richardson picked up his ninth Modified feature win of the year. Paul Reeder made it two in a row in the Pure Street feature. Gary Dunlap and Frankie Faulk won the Cruiser feature. The night cap Hobby Stock race was cut short by rain.

In their fourth and final appearance of the year at the speedway, the Sprint cars saved their best race for last. Chad Kemenah in the #15 car moved up from the second row to take the lead on the second lap from Randy Hannagan in the 1X. In a race that went caution free, Kemenah built an impressive five second lead by lap 11. Tim Montgomery won a fierce battle with Hannagan, Tommy Worley, and Wade Oliver for second and set his sites on Kemenah. Montgomery had cut the lead in half by lap 18, and was on the leader's rear bumper by lap 21. Kemenah held off Montgomery on the final lap as he crossed the finish line a half a car length ahead in an amazing dash to the flag. Worley held on for third. Hannagan took fourth, and Mike Ward moved up from the 11th starting position to grab fifth.

Heat winners were Lowe Cannell, Hannagan, Worley, and Kemenah. Jimmy Moss of Fredericktown won the B-Feature

Paul Reeder jumped out at start of the Pure Street feature and led all 12 laps. Just as the race began, the rains that would cancel the Hobby Stock feature began to mist, making for a slick racing condition. The drivers were up to the added challenge, as the only caution in the race was a lap 10 flag brought out by mechanical problems to the 38K of Chris Kelley. Reeder had built a respectable three second lead when the caution fell, and had no problem maintaining his lead the final two laps. This was Reeder's second feature win in a row, and third overall. Chuck Tilley won an early duel with Eric Lacy to take second. Greg Casey's apparent third place finish was wiped out for a post race tech failure. Lacy held on for third. Jared Wagster and Red Rice rounded out the top five.

Heat winners were Reeder, Lacy, Rice, and Aaron Darby. Chris Williams won the B-Main.
