With a break in the temperature, the Malden Speedway once again topped the century mark in cars with 110 on hand for Friday night's races. The program featured double features due to the past week's rain out. Billy James made the most of this opportunity and picked up his fifth and sixth Late Model wins of the year. Bart Richardson extended his Modified point lead with a win and a third place finish. Jared Wagster won the opening Modified feature. Doug Moore dominated the first Hobby Stock feature, with Tony Anglin taking the nightcap. Johnny Houart and Chuck Tilley split the Pure Street features. Scott Austin and Darrell Ham won the Cruiser opener with Steve McChristian and Terry Magouirk won the late race.

Billy James was dominating for the night but the opening Late Model feature was impressive indeed. James jumped to the lead from the second row on the opening turn of the race and never looked back. By the end of the race, only three cars remained on the lead lap as James led second by half a lap. Todd Hall, Nathan Rettig and Scott Tracer took turns holding the second spot early in the race. Hall took the position with Rettig third. Tracer's handling went away late and he had to settle for a sixth place finish. Kent Bailey and Scott Gibbs rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Rettig and Bailey.

In the regular scheduled Late Model feature, James had a tougher time of it, but once again returned to Victory Lane. The win is James's fourth in a row. Scott Tracer opened the race in the lead and held it for three laps before James dove between Tracer and second running Steve Karnes coming out of turn two to take the lead. James would never trail again, even though four caution periods kept the field close. Joey Mack started slowly, but started picking off positions during the second half of the race and took second. Nathan Rettig apparently had the second spot in hand, but a lap 19 spin dropped him out of contention. Charles LaPlant had a good run to third. Karnes took fourth and Scott Gibb grabbed fifth. An oil fire on lap 16 knocked Scott Tracer out of the race after running in the top five up to that point.

Heat winners were Karnes, Tracer, and James. In the heat races, Todd Hall, pilot of the 99 car, was injured in a collision with a possible broken wrist. Hall was taken in for examination.

In one of the better races of the year, Jared Wagster topped an excellent Modified field. Wagster swapped the lead back and forth with Bart Richardson with Tony Anglin and Robert Powers right in tow. Wagster took the lead for good on the 10th lap, but never developed a comfortable cushion on the field. Anglin and Wagster got into each other on lap 17, but no harm, no foul and the race continued. Powers shot past Richardson on the back straight of the final lap to take second. Richardson took third, Larry Hull fourth, with Anglin settling for a fifth place finish. Heat winners were Brad Buck, Richardson, and Wagster.

In the second feature, Bart Richardson led from start to finish picking up his seventh Modified win of the year. Jeff Cone took second and hounded Richardson the final 14 laps of the race. Cone pulled even with Richardson on the back straight of lap 17, only to have Richardson hold him off through turns three and four. A final lap collision shuffled the order of finish. A lapped car spun coming out of turn three as Claudie Cook and Greg King were racing hard for the third spot. Cook got through, but King had nowhere to go and wound up in a head on crash and a disappointing 18th place finish. Neither driver was injured. Chris Hall and Tony Anglin came through to round out the top five. Heat winners were Lannie Blake, Richardson, and Anglin.

Doug Moore ran away and hid from the Hobby Stock field in the August 29 make up feature. Tony Anglin led through the first four laps, but Moore got a good jump on the final caution flag of the race and grabbed the lead. The final 11 laps were run under green, and Moore had built a six and a half second lead on second place finisher Anglin. Tim Winchester took third in a tight three way race with Claudie Cook and Glenn Griffin. Heat winners were Anglin, Moore, and Lee Redden.

Jesse Brotherton had started 12th, but hit the right setup for the feature and moved up to second. Brotherton pulled even on the back straight of lap 13, but Anglin held him off. In the opening Pure Street feature, Johnny Houart led from start to finish. The race went green - white - checkered without caution with good racing around the track. Houart built a small cushion the first half of the race, but second running Greg Casey closed to his bumper as the leaders met lapped traffic. Traffic was an issue the rest of the way with Houart holding off Casey's challenge. Chuck Tilley was the best of the rest with Aaron Darby and Paul Reeder rounding out the top five.

Heat winners were Houart, Jimmy Cornell, and Eric Lacy. Lowell Calder won the B-Main.
