Inside Line Promotions - SAPULPA, Okla. (Oct. 17, 2019) - Jordon Mallett capped a return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action with a fifth-place finish Saturday at Creek County Speedway during the Fall Fling.

Rain cancelled the opening night of the doubleheader before Mallett produced his eighth top five of the season.

"We had a really good run," he said. "It stinks that it was only one night, but I'll take one good night of racing over none."

Mallett began the night starting on the outside front row in a heat race and he used the bottom of the track to move forward one position and take the checkered flag first. As a result, Mallett earned the third starting position in the feature following a positive feature redraw.

"I actually wish we had been better in the heat race, but overall we were better than everyone else," he said. "The track was challenging and gave us fits, but it gave us a good idea of what we needed to do for the feature."

Mallett battled between third and fifth for most of the feature. He noted the car was good on long runs and on multiple occasions he was in striking distance of the leaders before untimely cautions halted momentum. In the end Mallett settled for fifth.

"I think if we had more green flag runs we had a car capable of winning," he said. "We were much better on long runs and every time we'd catch them, it would seem the caution would come and we'd have issues getting going again. But we'll take the top five and be happy knowing we had a car capable of running up front."

Next up for Mallett will be two nights of racing at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, this Friday and Saturday during the 46th annual Winter Nationals.

Mallett gained 23 points on eighth place in the ASCS National Tour standings and with only four races remaining on the schedule he trails seventh by 56 markers. He's looking to use the momentum gained in Oklahoma to finish out the season strong and make up more ground in the standings.

"We made up some ground in the points and we really stabilized where we are in terms of not falling back at all," he said, "But I think we can move up as high as seventh. So we're going to shoot for the stars and try to move up as much as possible and I think we have a shot to do that at Devil's Bowl."
