Mid America Racing Series (M.A.R.S.) Preps For Busy Holiday Weekend

Batesville, Arkansas (7/31/07) – After a month hiatus, the Mid America Racing Series (M.A.R.S.) will return to action with a pair of big events in the Show-Me state this weekend.

Al Purkey from Coffeyville, Kansas will lead the Martians into battle this weekend. Purkey has one feature win on the year, and is seeking his first ever M.A.R.S. National Championship. Currently sitting second in the points is Crane, Missouri driver, Will Vaught, who is off to a great start to the 2007 season and already has two M.A.R.S. feature wins on the season. Defending series’ champion, Bill Frye, from Greenbriar, Arkansas, who has one feature win on the tour this year currently sits third in the points and will also be in action this weekend. Other touring drivers expected include Jeremy Payne (Missouri), Terry Phillips (Missouri), Jack Sullivan (Arkansas with two tour wins on the year), Steve Rushin (Missouri), Brandon McCormick (Missouri), Billy James (Missouri) and many more. Several of the top local and regional drives will also be in action this weekend, and will be looking for an upset against the travelers.

Action for the weekend will get underway as the tour makes its first ever visit to the recently re-opened, Springfield Raceway in Springfield, Missouri for the 1st Annual Andy’s Frozen Custard Shoot Out on Saturday, August 4th. The $3,000 To Win/$500 To Start event will be the biggest ever at the facility and enthusiasm is huge in anticipation of the event. Advance tickets for the “Andy’s Frozen Custard Shoot-Out” are $20 and will be on sale at the Raceway’s main ticket booth Wednesday August 1st through Friday August 3rd from 4:00pm till 8:00pm. Gates open at 4:00pm on Saturday, August 4th with a driver’s autograph session at 4:30pm and racing action starting at 7:00pm. On Sunday, August 5th, the M.A.R.S. competitors will head to Monett Speedway in Monett, Missouri for another $3,000 to win/$500 to start, 40 lap event. Monett Speedway is located in Monett, Missouri on Highway 60 North of the Wal-Mart Super Center . Gates open at 5:00 with hotlaps at 7:00 and racing action at 7:30.
