Winfield, Tennessee (08/07/12) – Despite not ever competing at the facility Mike Marlar was able to make a lot of noise over the weekend in his #5 Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Super Late Model at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) during the 25th Annual USA Nationals.

After seeing Wednesday night's World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model event at Shawano Speedway (Shawano, Wisconsin) nixed by rain Mike entered his first-ever event at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) on Thursday evening. A $5,000-to-win, Corn Belt Clash Series event was held as a talented field of fifty-seven competitors entered the event. Mike would advance from the fifth starting spot in his heat race to a second place finish, which locked him into the Quick Six Dash. However, the team discovered a broken rack after heat race action, and had to skip the dash to get it fixed. As a result he started sixth on the grid for the 50 lap feature and would battle to as high as the fourth position before mechanical woes late in the race brought his night to an early end in the 20th position.

On Friday and Saturday evening Mike took part in the $50,000-to-win, 25th Annual USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin). Fifty-three competitors entered the World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model event, and in time trials on Friday evening Mike registered the second fastest time. With the top three starters inverted in each heat Mike started third in the fourth heat race and would race to a second place finish behind race winner, Billy Moyer. Via his heat performance he earned a starting spot in the pole dash, and via the pill draw received the fifth starting spot. A sixth place finish in the dash left Mike starting sixth on the grid for Saturday night's 100 lap finale.

As Saturday's feature went green in front of a capacity crowd, Mike quickly worked his way into the top five and would settle in there as the first sixty laps went caution free. However, after a lap 60 caution Marlar would catch fire as he raced past Jimmy Owens and set his sights on the leader, Darrell Lanigan. Lap 76 saw the caution fly again, and on the restart Owens would race back into the second spot. Over the remainder of the race Marlar battled for the second position before registering a third place finish behind race winner, Lanigan, and Owens. Overall it was a great weekend for the team!

"Cedar Lake is really a fun race track. I just hate that it's taken me this long to go up there. I can't wait to go back next year. We had a great car all weekend, and while I obviously would've loved to get the win, I'm proud of a third place finish. My team is really working hard right now, and I can't wait to get to Florence (Speedway) next weekend," noted Marlar.
