Winfield, Tennessee (10/16/12) – Bryson Motorsports and Mike Marlar went into action over the weekend in the 18th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi), which posted a $15,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start purse, and Mike Marlar enjoyed another great outing in his #5b Bryson Motorsports/Rocket Chassis/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model with a runner-up finish in the event.

On Friday night Mike qualified fifth fastest in his group to earn the second starting spot for the third heat race. As the race went green Clint Smith jumped to the lead, but Mike would soon run him down to grab the top spot. Marlar led the next several laps before his tires began to go away, which allowed Smith to take the lead with two to go as he claimed the heat win with Mike in second. Marlar's heat race performance locked him into the ninth starting spot for the 100 lap main event on Saturday night. As the feature went green Marlar began working his way forward, and by the race's midway point was up to the third spot. A few laps later he worked his way up to second and set his sights on the leader Don O'Neal. Marlar would challenge O'Neal for the lead on lap 66 restart, but as the race neared its end O'Neal would slip away to claim the win with Mike registering a solid, second place finish.

“This is a really fun place to race because you’ve gotta chase the groove on the racetrack all over,” said Marlar, who finished in the top five at Whynot for the second straight year. “Literally, every part of that track was better than the other parts at some point in the race. So not only are you chasing the racetrack, but you’re also trying to pass people too while you’re doing that. I showed (O’Neal) my nose there and he changed his line. It was over with them. I couldn’t do anything with him,” Marlar said. “The harder I drove my car, the better it worked. So once I got my tires fired up and gripping, I kind of stayed after it. But after that caution they cooled back off and I was too free again.”

Marlar now turns his attention to the 32nd Annual Red Buck Dirt Track World Championship, will be held this weekend, October 20th-22nd, at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio). The $50,000-to-win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event will attract many of the nation's best drivers to the southern Ohio oval. Over the Labor Day weekend Mike claimed $25,000 in the Carl Short promoted, Hillbilly 100, and hopes to claim another big payday from Short this weekend.
