Farmington, MO – (September 26) -- Brent Thompson added his name to the winners list of Modified Mania. Thompson had to battle throughout the 25 lap event side by side with Billy Smith. Smith won the first rendition of the event in 2008.

Heat races were not as exciting as the feature. Several cautions and considerable time were expended to get the heats completed. Several drivers had their work cut out for them to make the main. Kenny Rumble was one of those. Rumble had to work his way out of the C – Main, which he would win. Starting toward the end of the B – Main, he also won, and finally advancing the Main event. Rumble finished seventh in the final. Jeremy Greenwalt had a similar path to the finals. He would also finish in the top 10.

The Main event started with Brent Thompson and Billy Smith on the front row. Thompson worked the top with Smith working the bottom. They would exchange positions almost every lap. Smith did hold a slight advantage in the lead for a short amount of time. During the time these two were having their own war, Mike Francis, David Shepard, Matt Eaton and John Leahy had things to settle between themselves. In the final tally, following Thompson and Smith. Mike Francis claimed third, Matt Eaton settled for fourth, and John Leahy, Jr completed the top five.

Jeremy Greenwalt and Kenny Rumble made claim to the Hard Charger Award for the A-Main, sponsored by Hudson Freight Brokerage.

Participating sponsor for the 2009 event were on hand as well. Interstate Battery, Crown Motors, Brian DeClue of DeClue Funeral Home., Jim and Bob Black of Brother’s Salvage, Randy Elliott – Elliott Motor Company, Jerry West – Boyer Lumber, Kevin Politte – Southpaw Graphix, Mike and Michelle Francis – Hurricane Motorsports and The Flower Box, Tim and Joey Montgomery – Carquest of Fredericktown, Ron Boyd – Ron’s Tire, Mike and Tammy Hayes – Hayes Service Center. Mike Lucy – Lucy Auto Repair, Brian Blair - All Type Construction, Jim Randolph – Randolph Towing, Josh and Kathy Campbell – Fresh and Clean Restrooms, and Hudson Freight Brokerage

During the past week, Dean Adams , Sr., passed away. In remberance of Mr. Adams, the drivers had signed Frisbees that were thrown into the crowd at intermission. The driver who finished fourth, Dean’s number when he raced, received a prize. In this case, $50, was won by a young fan. His driver was Matt Eaton.

Thirty-seven modifieds checked in for this event.

Sprint Division was not to be outdone on this evening. Jimmy Hurley, Springfield, IL, made a complete sweep of the class by winning his heat, dash and the Feature. Hurley’s car was in dominating form for most of the night.

Starting the feature from the pole, Hurley, Steve Short, Terry Babb, Tim Montgomery, and Joey Montgomery set out in a group and pulled away from the field. Caution came out early as Tommy Worley had trouble in turn three and four. His car came down from a bicycling event. The car sat down hard and rendered done for the night. Restart found the same group again pulling out, only to have the caution come out. Kory Bales mount stalled on the back stretch after a quick trip through the infield. This restart, lap 2, found Hurley on the point and pulling away from Steve Short. Slower traffic came in to play and allowed runner-up Joey Montgomery to get alongside of Hurley. Hurley pulled away for the win. Joey Montgomery, 2009 SFCR Sprint Champion, finished a strong second, Terry Babb, Decatur, IL, takes third place honors, Steve Short hung on for a fine fourth place finish, and Tom Dickerman brings it home in the fifth position.

Pure Street Action found Shane Blair in the winner’s circle. Blair, who has had motor trouble during the season, took his new motor and put it to good use. Blair did have to work hard for the win as he and past Champion, Chris Boyd, would stay close for the entire event. Boyd opened up the bottom, Blair saw it and took advantage for the win.

Blair gets the hard fought win, followed by Chris Boyd in the runner up slot, Eddie Gross made a strong run for third, Dave Wofford finished fourth, and Robbie Wells completed the top five.

JoeB Miller made another trip to SFCR successful. Driving a limited schedule here in 2009. Miller picked up feature win number six. Jimmy Bridgeman came home in the second position, 2009 Multi Champion Dave Chilton finished in third, followed by Brian Keen in fourth, and Jason Daugherty completing the top five.

The Go-Carts were on hand for the second time this season, Lee Stuppy, St Genevieve drove his cart to victory lane. Chandler Franklin takes second place honors, followed by Travis Alman in third, Elizabeth Larson claims fourth place, and Dylan Whitter completes the top five.

Next Saturday evening, October 3rd, will be the final event of 2009 at St Francois County Raceway, the Annual running of the Queens Royal. Joey Montgomery will attempt to defend his crown. Gates open at 4:00. Hot Laps at 6:15. Racing will be around 7:00. Check out the track website for information. Track website is www.sfcr-online.com.
