Farmington, MO (May 29) -- Memorial Day Weekend the time we honor our fallen service men and women. It is also one of the biggest weekends of racing. Of course we have the granddaddy of the all, The Indianapolis 500. We also have the longest race of the season for the NASCAR boys, the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte and we have our local racing at St Francois County Raceway.

With this being a holiday weekend one could assume the local show would not be exciting. However, they were wrong. Joey Montgomery, Fredericktown, MO was the first to put on “the hat” as he won his heat, the dash and feature event. Montgomery, a many time track champion, would get his first win of the season on this night. After some tough racing luck last week, he would make it big tonight. Montgomery would start on the front row inside by virtue of his win in the dash. Alongside was Keith Burch, Farmington, MO, also looking for his first win. The green flag would wave. The inside row of Montgomery and his brother Timmy got the jump on the field, followed by Burch and point leader A J Bruns, Lincoln, IL. These five would shuffle for position throughout the event. Joey Montgomery had a super fast car and began lapping the field very quickly. On one occasion he would lose the lead to Burch, only to regain it as Burch made contact with John Epperson in turn one. This made Danny Long stop his mount and one of the caution periods for the event. Joey Montgomery took advantage of the lapped cars the next restart and pulled away quickly for the win. Montgomery was chased by Burch, Bruns, Rod Crabdree, and Tim Montgomery for top five honors.

The A-Modified Division found Billy Smith, Bonne Terre, MO wearing “the hat” for the second time this season. In his familiar #14 machine sponsored by Nash Automotive, Kenny Wallace and Big River Utility., Smith and Brent Thompson put on a great show for the crowd. Smith on this night was a bottom runner and Thompson on the top. Last week Thompson used the bottom to gain his first win on the season. Side by side, back and forth the two would chase victory. Getting very close at time, but not touching or leaning on each other. Third place finisher Shannon Blair had a first hand look at these two. The third place finish for Blair is his best of the season. Jeremey Greenwalt placed in the fourth spot and Jeff Asher completed the top five.

The Hustler has done it again. Kenny Harris took top honors in the B-Modified Division for the third time in 2010. Harris had a good handling car. It was a good thing he did as second place finisher, Mike Savage, was on his horse and challenging for the win again. During the post race interview Harris acknowledged that “Mikie” would be in victory lane this season.

Our Pure Street Division had a streak broken. Chris Boyd had won the previous three times. It did not happen tonight as Kasey Nation stopped his freight train. Starting from the pole position, Nations would race with Jimmy Dunn, but not for long. Dunn, who has a fast and possible winning car, had the same trouble he had last week. Fire was the issue in the engine compartment on lap one. He would retire from the event. Brian Hazlett also had issues with fire in his car on the same lap. Neither car suffered any damage. From that point it was all Nations. Second place went to Chris Boyd, third place went to Jimmy Farris followed by Kodi Savage for fourth with Eric Sarakas completing the top five.

Racing will resume next Saturday, June 5th. This will be a popular night as admission to the main grandstand for adult is only $5.00. Pit passes are still $25.00. Gates open at 4:00, Hot laps at 6:15 followed by racing around 7:00. Check out the track website at www.sfcr-online.com.
