Farmington, MO (June 5) -- On this first “official” $5 dollar night. With sponsors I the house from several track sponsors, they witnessed a very dominating performance from Joey Montgomery. Montgomery made it two straight in the sprint division by whipping the field. Starting outside the front row and getting the jump at the start, he would set sail and never be headed. The race saw three caution periods, each for minor incidents. Steve Short made a valiant effort to keep pace but fell back and settled for a second place finish. Shorts run for the runner up spot was contested by Jimmy Hurley of Springfield, Illinois. These two exchanged positions throughout the 25 lap event. Rod Crabdree had another excellent run in his Quentin Campbell owned mount and finished in fourth place. Joey Boyd completes the top five in his Ron’s Tire entry.
The Modified Division found a new face in the winners circle for 2010. Defending track champion, David Shepard, used a single file restart to lay claim to his first win this season. After missing a week due to damage on his race car, Shepard used the low line to fend off the challenges of current point leader Billy Smith. Shannon Blair started the race on the front row and looked as if he would be the one to beat. However, cautions would plague the event early, and Blair would settle in behind Shepard. Late in the race Smith got around Blair for the runner up spot, with Blair holding on for third. Brent Thompson made home in the fourth place followed by Timmy Hill in fifth.
After a few weeks to get the car dialed in, Mike Savage, Annapolis, MO mad it payoff. The first week keeping the car straight was an issue. A little time off due to weather, Savage and his crew worked on the car. Next time out improvement was show. Then a series of second place finishes would wet the appetite for a win. He got that on Saturday night as his first win could have been one of dominance. A late race caution for Mark Dickerson bunched up the field for a final show down. Savage would once again pull away from the field. Kyle Stolzer, St Genevieve, MO placed in the second position follwed by Brian Richard, Kenny Harris and Jeff Whitter. Whitter had one of his better runs of the season.
The Pure Street Division say the return of Chris Boyd, Park Hills, MO to the winners circle. In winning for the fourth time in five starts, he had no trouble with the field. Last weeks winner, Kasey Nation made his run stick for a second place finish. Eric Sarakas had his best run for 2010 coming home third. Kodi Savage also had a great run to finish fourth and Robbie Wells makes it home with his best run for fifth.
Racing will continue Next Saturday night as the Winged Sprint cars will be running for $2000 to win. Gates open at 4:00. Hot Laps around 6:15 with racing following hot laps. Adult grandstand admission is $10. Childred under the age of 12 admitted free with a paying adult.
