It was a very hot and humid night at the Quad City Raceway, as the heat index was well over 100 degrees. All five classes were in action Late Models, Street Stocks, Modifieds, 4 Cylinders, and Mod-Lites.

First off the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stocks were on the track. The heat race was picked up by Greg Gill. In the feature event Greg Gill and Matt Werner made up the front row. At the start of the race, Matt Werner jumped out to the early race lead. Werner then went on to lead every lap, as he captured the 15 lap feature. Greg Gill, after falling back to 4th, would rally back to a 2nd place finish. Cary Brown finished 3rd, in his first visit of the season. Rounding out the top five were Jimmy Simpson and Chris Lawrence.
In the Avenue Rental IMCA Late Models, Rob Toland and David Englekens picked up heat race wins. In the 25 lap feature event, 4th starting Rob Toland quickly made his way to the front of the field, but Ray Guss Jr and Kevin Blum came from deep in the field to challenge. The three drivers diced it out amongst each other thru the final 15 laps. With about 3 laps to go Todd Malmstrom ran down all three cars to make it a four car battle. As they came to the checkers, the cars were four wide, and Rob Toland would be first to the line by about a foot. Ray Guss Jr. Would finish 2nd, Kevin Blum was 3rd, and Todd Malmstrom was 4th. Nate Buesling rounded out the top five.

In the Eastern Iowa Landscaping LLC UMP Modifieds, 22 cars were hand to do attle for those important national points. Heat races were captured by Milo Veloz Jr., Gary Cook Jr., and Jeff Morris. At the start of the feature event Jeff Morris jumped out to the early lead with Cook Jr. 2nd. On Lap 5 Cook Jr. Would get by Morris, but the caution flag waived, and Morris would get his top spot back, since a full lap was not completed. Then 2 laps later Veloz Jr. got into the back Cook jr. and sent him spinning, bringing out a caution. Both drivers, who were 2nd and 3rd at the time were sent to the back. That would open the door for Manhattan, Illinois driver Mike Spatolla. Spatolla tried numerous times over the next 12 laps to get by Morris using every line imaginable, but could not get by. Jeff Morris would go on take the checkers, with Spatolla 2nd. Point leader Doug Crampton would finish 3rd, Brandon Durbin was 4th, and Nathan Balensiefen was 5th.

In The Aaron’s Affordable UMP 4 Cylinder’s, heat races were won by Amie Woeckener and Jeremy Campbell. In the Modlites, Shon Sanders won the heat race. Unfortunately a violent storm was bearing down on the race track forcing the cancellation of those two feature events. The Modlites feature will be made up on August 16th, and the 4 Cylinders feature will be made up on August 23rd.

Racing action continues this Sunday August 16th with a full show once again. Also it will be fan voting night for the Quad City Raceway Hall of Fame. Gates will open at 4pm, hot laps at 530pm, and racing action will get underway at 6pm.
