Morton Tops Midway Modified Main, Francis Recovers On Last Lap For StreetStock Win

Lebanon,Mo.-Mother nature finally allowed racing action the LebanonMidwaySpeedway on Friday night and the drivers were treated to an excellent racing surface with plenty of side by side action with 80 eams checked into the pits.

The FactoryStock feature went Green,White and Checkered with lots of side by side action with the 16 car starting field.Ben Solberg took advantage of his front row starting spot and grabbed the early lead with Burl Woods and pole setter Tim Jones following close.Solberg started to pull away as Woods was staying close behind.Meanwhile Jones,Tim Petty,Tyson Troutman and Mark Davis were swapping spots back and forth as point leader Donnie Miller who started 15th was charging hard.With Solberg pulling away,Woods pulled into the pits on lap 5 leaving Troutman,Petty,Jones and a fast moving Miller to battle for second place as Jones pulled in on lap 10 ending his night.
Solberg was in a different zone tonight as he grabbed win number 2 this season with Troutman,Petty,Miller and Davis in the top 5.

The Modified feature saw a strong field of 21 cars took the green with JC Morton and Micheal Stake bringing the field to the green with Morton grabbing the lead as Stake moved to the top groove with point leader Wayne Graybeal,Shawn Strong and Mark Simon following.Graybeal moved into the second spot on lap 2 as he and Stake went side by side.Shawn Strong made his presence known as he moved around Stake to take third spot on lap 4 while Graybeal closed in on the leader Morton.With morton withstanding the Graybeal charge it was on lap 10 that Bobby Maggard Jr was moving quickly as he jumped into fifth place and was coming strong.Up front Morton had opened up a lead but during the long green run,Graybeal had closed up the gap until the caution flew on lap 15.On the last 5 lap dash,Morton pulled away to secure his first Midway win this season with Graybeal,Mark Simon,Tyler Brown and Shawn Strong completing the top 5 with 14 cars on the lead lap.

The StreetStock feature has some outstanding racing action as Mike Piercy and Joe Francis brought the field to the green with side by side action from the go.Francis the 2009 Midway champion nosed ahead of Piercy at the line to grab the opening lead as Brandon Waters was battling Rodney Yost for the spot while point leader Matt Pilant was moving from the 11th starting spot.On lap 5,Piercy spun in turn 2 collecting Yost and Jack Hamer bringing out the yellow.Piercy and Hamer would continue while Yost was done for the evening.On lap 5 with Francis leading,Pilant had movd into second place and was challanging when he lost a motor dumping water and oil on the track as SpringfieldRaceway champion Robert High hit the slick spot looping the car but kept rolling.On the restart Francis pulled away from runner-up Brandon Waters and opened up a big lead as High and Waters battled for second place while early victime Hamer and Piercy were coming quickly from the back of the pack.On lap 10,High moved around Waters and started to close the ground on Francis.On the last lap,with Francis leading and High coming quickly,Francis spun around in turn 2 and kept going forward as High was gaining.Francis gathered the car back up and held off High's charge to record his 2nd points victory of the season with High,Brandon Waters,Piercy and Billy Waters who started 19th completing the top 5.

The LateModelSportsman feature was all point leader Ben Newell as he took the opening lap lead and withstood an opening early challange from JC Newell in capturing his second feature win of the season as JC Newell and Larry Prewett battled for the runner-up spot as JC held on to grab the position as Prewett,Bennie Joiner and Tim Ballinger completed the top 5.

The PureStock feature had plent of action as point leader Grant Sharp grabbed the opening lead with with Les Hayes and Corey Barker battling Shorty Doublin for second place.Early contender Adam Lowrance lost an oil line ending his strong run on the opening lap.On lap 2,Barker and Sharp went door to door with Barker taking the lead while Danny Caffey was charging from the 11th starting spot and into third place.On lap 3,Josh Moore rolled his car in turn 2 and was able to walk away unhurt.On the restart,Caffey applied pressure to Barker while Sharp was waiting in the shadows for a chance.Barker and Caffey battled the rest of the distance as Barker took his first win of the season with Caffey,Sharp,Brandon Knudtson and Robert Doublin completing the top 5 with a wild last 3 laps of action all over the track.

The MidWest Modz feature saw point leader JC Newell take the opening lead but develope problems as on lap 7 as first time driver Tim Ballinger Jr came charging to take the win in his first time ever in the racecar.

Action continues next Friday night as the Speedway will hold a special on track autograph session where the fans get to go trackside after the heat races and visit with the drivers.

Action will feature the FactoryStocks,Modifieds,StreetStocks,PureStocks,LateModelSportsman and MidWest Modz with hotlaps starting at 7:05 and racing at 8PM.
