Haubstadt, IN - June 1, 2014 - The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series has completed the first third of the 2014 season. Five of the six races scheduled were completed with weather becoming a cancelling factor just the one time. All five races were held at tracks in the Hoosier state.
The next event for MSCS, which is scheduled to be held on June 6th, will be presented on Illinois dirt. The MSCS 410 sprint cars will be in action this Friday night at the Farmer City Raceway. This will be the very first appearance at the high banked fairgrounds oval for the series. And it will be the first race that MSCS has sanctioned in the state of Illinois since 2009.
Farmer City Raceway presents non-wing sprint car racing as part of their schedule of special events. So far this season two events have been completed at the quarter mile oval. Non-wing sprint car racing was held on May 2nd and also on April 18th. Mitch Wissmiller was victorious in winning both of those feature races. The Saybrook, Illinois, veteran won there in three straight appearances at the track last season. He clearly holds the claim to any home track advantage. And he is a former champion in the Midwest Sprint Car Series taking the honors back in 2002!
The current points standing for the MSCS series places eight drivers within four to forty points of leader Jon Stanbrough. Stanbrough, who is from Brownsburg, IN, is working on a third straight series title. A feature win is worth 40 points! Jeff Bland Jr. has won the last two MSCS features. He has moved up to 7th in the points. Other top drivers include Brady Short, Robert Ballou, Kyle Cummins, Chase Stockon, Bradley Sterrett, and Carson Short. Brandon Mattox is
currently ninth in the MSCS points. The Cory, IN, driver has
multiple top three finishes in non-sanctioned races at Farmer City Raceway.
Racing begins at 7:30 P.M. with hot laps an hour earlier. This program will include a full slate of weekly classes in addition to the sprint cars. MSCS does not qualify. Drivers are reminded to register as soon as possible with MSCS in the pits in order to complete the pill draw which ends before hot laps begin. Drivers new to the series or competing on a one time basis can purchase a temporary permit from MSCS instead of a full annual license if they prefer. All sprint car drivers will need to use race-ceivers!
MSCS races using a spec tire rule. For 2014 the Hoosier 105/16-15 Med. was adopted as the tire to be used on the right rear of each sprint car. The time granted to use up any HT-2 and DT-3 tires will have expired on June 2nd prior to the Farmer City event.
Farmer City Raceway is located in Farmer City, Ilinois. The address for the track is 850 North Grove. If using I-74 one would need to use exit 159 and head south & west 1.3 miles to the DeWitt County Fairgrounds.
Illinois sprint car competitors and fans might also want to mark their calendars for another MSCS race to be held in the Prairie State. Clay County Speedway at Flora, Illinois, will be having a MSCS race on Saturday July 5th. Prior to that date MSCS will be sharing a racing bill with the MOWA Winged Sprints in a double header of sprint car action on June 21st at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. That race should showcase the best Illinois and Indiana sprint car drivers of both pursuits.
