LANSING, Minn. (July 14) -- After early morning showers fell in the area, it turned out to be a beautiful night for a special Thursday night race program at the Chateau Raceway as the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy was on hand for a special summer stop at Darin Toot's popular 1/3-mile bullring.

At intermission there was an auction of a door and quarter panel off of Zack VanderBeek’s USMTS Modified that was sporting a pink graphics scheme to raise money for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day For The Cure. The effort was headed up by race fan Chris Brown and the 33z Racing team this season. With the help of racing auctioneer Greg Jensen, more than $2,100 was raised through the auction and the passing of the helmets through the crowd.

After out-of-car introductions and the redraw of the top eight drivers in passing points, the stage was set for the 40-lap, $2,000-to-win WIX Filters "A" Main.

VanderBeek and Tommy Myer led the 25-car pack to the green flag. Myer tore off from the outside of row 1 and made it a one-car party up front.

Myer was a half straight-away out front on lap 7 and VanderBeek settled into second while Corey Dripps was third and Rodney Sanders along with Keith Foss filled out the top 5.

Myer was into lapped traffic on lap 15, but behind him Dripps was putting pressure on VanderBeek for second. The race's lone caution flew on lap 18 for debris, and Myer stormed away again on the restart and had a full straight-away advantage when he again entered lapped traffic.

Behind him the battle for second raged on when Dripps really got after VanderBeek. With five to go, Dripps got to second and pulled away from VanderBeek while Myer was being held up by lapped traffic.

Dripps closed the gap on the leader when the white flag flew and made a dramatic last-lap charge but came up a half-car-length short at the checkered flag.

It was Myer’s first win for 2011 at one of the tracks where he cut his teeth early in his career. VanderBeek was third with Sanders and Foss fourth and fifth.

Steve Wetzstein, Ryan Ruter, 2008 USMTS National Champion Tim Donlinger, Al Hejna and defending USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes rounded out the top 10.

On Friday, action moves to the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., for another $2,000-to-win blockbuster in the Yeager Machine Upper Midwest Region.

In 2009, Bob Timm the Tri-Oval Speedway as it was called at the time. Timm’s new role as promoter brought a new configuration, new clay surface and a new name. The facility was renamed Mississippi Thunder Speedway and gone was the sweeping tri-oval shape in favor of a high-banked 1/3-mile oval.

Todd Scharkey, Kelly Shryock and Al Hejna were all winners at the former Tri-Oval Speedway. Since then, Tommy Myer and Tim Donlinger have both scored victories at the track while Ryan Gustin has two wins, including the most recent event last August during ‘The Hunt.’

Gates will open at 5 p.m. with Mini Mods racing at 5:30 and racing on the big track starting at 7 p.m. Also on the racing card will be USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods racing for track and national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series, plus Street Stocks.

The Mississippi Thunder Speedway is located 3.0 miles north of Fountain City on SR 35. For more information, call 608-687-3282 or visit www.mississippithunder.com on the World Wide Web.
